Al Widyan took a step forward when third at Kempton, while War Chest finished a promising third at Ascot on debut. It would be no surprise if that pair had a strong say in proceedings, but marginal preference goes to OAKFORD. The son of Dark Angel showed a willing attitude when just missing out to the Harv, now rated 90, at Goodwood and further improvement looks assured. Hope In Havana and Cornichon are newcomers to note.

SORRENGAIL had subsequent C&D winner Sweetwonderfulyou back in third when scoring at Ascot in July prior to going close when runner-up over 6f here. Charlie Appleby's filly left the strong impression this extra yardage would suit and she can edge out Miss Miniver, who also sports the Godolphin blue. The latter made every yard at Salisbury, with Learning back in fourth, and could prove the main threat to the selection.

Weleyff will appreciate a return to faster ground, having won a nursery at Doncaster on his penultimate start. The same comment applies to The Bookkeeper, who placed at Glorious Goodwood, but a chance is taken on NEXT OF KIN in an open contest. The daughter of Kingman finished an encouraging third here before scoring over 6f at Ayr and could prove better than her opening mark, with this longer trip expected to suit the Rockfel entry.

There was plenty to like about BIN JAHWAR's debut success at Newmarket when only needing to be pushed out to score by a wide margin. Charlie Appleby has his team in tremendous form and the son of Ghaiyyath, who has an entry in the Futurity Trophy at Doncaster next month, may well be heading in that direction if impressing here. Flying Pirate destroyed his rivals under a penalty when tried in cheekpieces at Haydock, while King High and Impasto appeal most of the remainder.

SPY CHIEF was well fancied for the Wokingham at Royal Ascot, but ran no sort of race. However the four-year-old, who had gone close against subsequent two-time Group 1 winner Almeraq at Salisbury the time before, has been given sufficient time to recover and it wouldn't be a huge surprise if he bounced back. Catullus ran with credit when pacemaking for Talk Of New York at Goodwood and reverting to 7f should be in his favour. The consistent Elarak is entitled to benefit from the return to 7f too.

LADY MAGU backed up a Ffos Las maiden success when running out a comfortable winner on her handicap debut at Wolverhampton and the daughter of Sea The Moon still makes plenty of appeal, despite an 8lb rise. Counter Intuitive ran no sort of race when attempting to land a hat-trick at Salisbury, but it is far too soon to be writing off Ed Walker's filly. Others for the shortlist include Littlecote and Hello Friend.

Tambora won nicely at Sandown at the start of July and returns to action with solid claims. Salisbury winner Mythical Bird failed to stay the longer trip at Bath last time and is not out of it either, but RIVER CARD makes most appeal. Brian Meehan's gelding beat the top-class Maltese Cross at Ascot last term and finished a decent fourth over a mile here on last month's belated seasonal debut. This extra test of stamina could spark further improvement.

Recent Newcastle novice winner INTERSTATE was narrowly beaten at Sandown on his handicap debut prior to that. Only 2lb higher for this, the Gosdens' inmate is one to take seriously and looks set to make another bold bid. The progressive Empirical arrives in great heart having gone close here last month when bidding for a hat-trick. He merits consideration, as does Dark Whisper, who drops in class and is preferred to the 2024 winner Due To Henry.
