CARAUSIUS has rocketed up the handicap as a consequence of a hat-trick of successes at Southwell. An easy winner off 67 on the first of those, he is now rated 82 but showed no signs of being slowed down when winning off 4lb lower than his current mark last time. Should the handicapper have managed to get to grips with him, then Jomont could be the one to capitalise as his hat-trick bid ended with a solid second over 10 furlongs here last time and this longer trip could suit. Trinity Girl was well beaten behind the selection two starts ago but ran well for a long way over 2m at Chelmsford last time, so she completes the shortlist.

Charlie Appleby has a couple of interesting runners in this, including COLOURFUL DREAM, who was well fancied for his debut at Newmarket so could be a lot better than the result suggested there. He may be worth another chance, although his stablemate, After The Rain, makes plenty of appeal on paper and could go well first time out under David Probert. Fellow newcomer Timeless Melody is a full-sister to a filly who won on the all-weather on debut and also warrants respect.

Tommy Taylor made it a hat-trick of successes over 6f here with an impressive display last month and is only 6lb higher than when starting his winning spree, while Vindobala runs off the same mark as when second over this track and trip last week. Both have claims in this, but slight preference is for DUTCH DECOY, who has gone close the last twice. A winner off 2lb lower over C&D early last month, Charlie and Mark Johnston's gelding has filled the runner-up spot in a pair of small-field handicaps and can get back to winning ways here.

BERNARD SPIERPOINT does need a career best off a mark of 59 here but is the in-form option after three wins in a row, followed by a second at Southwell last month. Well drawn in stall 10, he is the one to be on. Crunchie is interesting in first-time blinkers and is well worth a market watch ahead of his return to action along with Muatadel, who has won twice here and is slowly heading back towards a mark he can win off.

Astro Jakk likes it here with two wins from four starts and, with his stable in among the winners, he may be able to get involved in the finish again. Aberama Gold has won better races off higher marks in the past and wasn't disgraced last time out at Southwell, but ASADJUMEIRAH may have the edge. Caught on the line for a dead-heat here last time out, Cam Hardie takes over in the saddle now and may produce him slightly later.

In a moderate event the marginal preference is for CLEAR ANGEL, who was only beaten a neck into second over C&D two weeks ago. Deevious Beau has made the frame in three of his last four starts and he should be thereabouts once again, while Tarnhelm and Raabeh are others who are capable of going well in a race of this nature.

Magical Mile has to be respected having got off the mark at Chelmsford a week ago, although his is 1lb wrong today due to his 5lb penalty. With that in mind, preference is for ENGLES ROCK, who was successful over C&D a month ago and a 2lb rise for that victory may underestimate this six-year-old mare. Others to note are Dreamseller, Going Underground and Masham Moor.
