Director's Cut took a step forward to score at Newcastle in November and will appreciate this rise in trip. However, he might find it tough to give his penalty away to INFRAAD, who finished five lengths clear of the third when second over a mile at Doncaster on his sole juvenile start and is likely to have plenty more in the locker. You Got To My Soul is the pick of the remainder.
A strong novice to start the season here where INFRAAD can build on his promising debut last autumn. He finished runner up to a rival who got first run over 1m that day and his breeding suggests he'll improve significantly for the step up in trip on his return. The previous winner in the race Director's Cut is another whose breeding suggests he'll have more to offer over this longer distance. He holds strong claims despite his penalty and can fill the places with You Got To My Soul who failed to convince with her stamina for 12f last time. She holds a fitness edge on her rivals dropping back to her optimum trip.

Australia Day changed hands for 180,000gns as a yearling and is a half-brother to Zenga, who placed at Listed level on her final start, so he is one to watch in the market. Godolphin newcomer Olympic Charter is related to plenty of winners and could go well, but TORNADO TOWER makes the most appeal on paper. The Gosdens' colt is a brother to Irish Derby and St Leger hero Hurricane Lane and if he possesses even half of his ability, he will prove a tough nut to crack.
The form standard is set by Knightsail who shaped with promise in a couple of novice events last year over similar trips. However he lacks fitness here so could be vulnerable to a talented newcomer. Olympic Charter is a half brother to a Grade 3 winner in the US for the same connections so is respected but it is TORNADO TOWER who is preferred. He is a half brother to a classy stayer for the same yard and also to a former Irish Derby winner who also landed the Leger the same year. His top stable gets plenty of first time out winners and should enjoy more success here.

It paid to follow Karl Burke in the juvenile division last season and, for that reason, FINAL APPEAL gets the vote. By Inns Of Court and out of a half-sister to Australian Group 1 winner Sir John Hawkwood, it would be no surprise to see him make a successful debut. Rotelle cost 40,000gns as a yearling and has plenty of speed in his pedigree so he is one to watch out for. Any market support behind Blackberry Bold would be interesting.
Very little form to go on and this could be dominated by newcomers. Greek Street is a half brother to a 5f winner and represents a yard in fine form so is respected. Blackberry Bold comes from a yard which can get them ready first time and her jockey booking suggests a big run is expected on debut. That said, preference is for FIORELLA PRINCESS, who has been running well in defeat on the all-weather of late and was successful when last seen on turf at Sandown in September. A tight contest where OVER SPICED can continue her good record under this jockey. She was in good form on varying ground in the autumn off similar marks while her jockey and trainer have combined for success already this spring. J Street is yet to add to her maiden victory but she did return to form on her reappearance and would've been a fair bit closer that day with a clear run. DRYBURGH relished the step up to this trip when filling third place at Doncaster 10 days ago and Oli Rix's gelding merits the utmost respect off the same mark. Extraterrestrial was third on his handicap debut at Wolverhampton last time and may improve with a first-time visor now applied. Cases can be made for all of the remainder, but Al's River is the pick of them.
Dryburgh arguably brings in the strongest form after placing in a hot handicap at Doncaster on his turf return. Gladiadora has to be of interest following her Southwell success. However, a chance can be taken with POWERFUL RESPONSE, who caught the eye when fourth at Doncaster. He did not appear to quite get home over 1m2f on that occasion and the six-year-old should relish this drop in trip. Rosemary's Rose has been in good form on the all-weather in recent months and is another to consider.
Last time out winner GLADIADORA can defy a lenient 2lb rise. Though she was a narrow winner that day it came over a sharp enough 7f and she should appreciate the return to 1m. With her yard in flying form she is chosen to defeat Antiquity who took a division of this last year off 3lb higher. He has bounced back to form on the AW recently and his last run is worth marking up as he forced an overly strong pace. Powerful Response has an abysmal strike rate but he has dropped a fair way in the weights and has been back in form since the autumn. If getting a decent test down in trip he should also be on the premises.

Jamie Osborne won a division of this 12 months ago and would not be without a chance courtesy of the consistent Aneirin's Sword, but there a number of less exposed rivals who could find further progress. LIGHT THE NIGHT UP showed plenty in novice events before finishing third on her handicap bow and it might be that returning to the mile while switching to turf holds the key for Karl Burke's filly. Kokushoku and Venetian Romance are notable handicaps debutants, and Bird Of War is no forlorn hope either.
ANEIRIN'S SWORD has been in excellent form recently and appeared outstayed over 10f recently so should appreciate this drop in trip. He is capable off this mark though he does need to prove as effective on turf as does the progressive Crimson Rambler who he is fancied to defeat. That rival was foiled in his hat trick bid last time but he was caught too far back off a steady pace and may do better with a stronger gallop. Kokushoku is another who appears ideally suited by a strongly run mile and looks on a fair mark based on his novice form. He can also get involved in what looks a tight contest.

CAVOLO NERO made a pleasing return to action at Kempton last month, keeping on well in the closing stages to grab second place. He steps into unknown territory regarding distance but his dam stayed this trip, and trainer James Ferguson has been among the winners of late. C&D winner Just An Hour is seldom far away and although that might be the case again, Moon Beginnings could be a bigger threat.
CAVOLO NERO is taken to defy top weight. He placed off this mark on his last couple of starts on the AW and that form has been boosted while his jockey booking suggests another big run is expected. Mighty Quiet proved inconsistent last term but she ended the season well and looks on a workable mark for her return. She can fill the places with Qitaal who is also attractively treated despite his abysmal strike rate. If the first time cheekpieces help him in a finish he will be a major player.
