DARK SHIFT shaped with lots of promise in two starts last year, winning easily at Ascot before being touched off by subsequent Listed scorer Apollo One at Salisbury, and he will likely prove tough to beat on his seasonal reappearance. International Girl needed every yard of the 5f trip when making a winning debut at Musselburgh last July and she warrants respect stepped up in distance on her return. First-time gelding Motorious also has solid place credentials.

LOOK OUT LOUIS showed a fantastic attitude when making all over 5 1/2f at Wetherby and, entitled to improve for that first run since December, he makes plenty of appeal off this 1lb higher mark. Cowboy Soldier is quickly bounced out following a fine second at Thirsk last week (his first outing for Roger Fell) and he is likely to show up well again. Recent Chelmsford second Boundless Power certainly isn't out of it either.

MACK THE KNIFE gets a tentative vote in what looks a fiercely competitive handicap. He has been running consistently well for a number of months, firstly on the all-weather and then on turf at Bath last time, and stepping back up in distance shouldn't bother him. Magna Moralia has won over hurdles since his close-up third at Redcar in November and he merits consideration equipped with first-time cheekpieces. The Dancing Poet is another to note.

LIGHT REFRAIN benefited from the drop back to 6f on her last couple of outings, winning a novice contest at Newcastle before finishing second in a Listed race at York, and the daughter of Frankel is expected to improve again this season. Last Empire has to give weight all round after scoring at this level in France last October. Mountain Brave and Zim Baby are others who boast viable claims.

LEROY LEROY enjoyed a decent campaign over hurdles last summer and has continued that on his return to the Flat, winning at Doncaster on the opening day of the turf season. He was just denied at Windsor subsequently and can take advantage of his rider's 5lb claim. Morlaix has been progressive on the all-weather, winning three of his last four starts, and has to be respected along with fellow hat-trick seeker Vanity Affair.

BINT AL ANOOD made a winning debut for these connections over a mile at Windsor last month and she merits plenty of respect again off just 3lb higher. Serious Intention hit the crossbar on his return to action at Pontefract and he may have more to offer. Cuban Cigar and Swinton Noon could both make the frame if they can transfer their recent all-weather form to turf.

In a moderate race to close the card, marginal preference is for THE KING'S STEED, who bounced back to form when finishing second on his return to the turf at Musselburgh last month. Corrida De Toros has been running well in defeat on the all-weather and he should be in the mix, while Dancing Jo and Joyful Dream also merit places on the shortlist.
