An intriguing opener can go the way of MR KHALID, who didn't enjoy the clearest passage when making his debut at Lingfield last month, but made good late headway nevertheless. He is entitled to improve for his first competitive experience, but so too are Hammer Gun and Blakeney Point, who are likely to do better with a run under their belt. Alquffaal, Torch and Sogno D'amore are interesting newcomers, and Jazzy is another for the shortlist after a creditable effort at Windsor.

The second division of this maiden doesn't look as strong as the first, with the possible exception of MAINSTREAM, who made an encouraging debut when fourth at Leicester. He can improve on that effort here, but it wouldn't be a surprise to see Ginger Joe strip fitter for his Salisbury outing and give the selection something to think about. Match My Fire shouldn't be judged on her first competitive outing, and the newcomers Kuantan and Stetchworth Park are also worth noting.

This is a particularly strong maiden on paper and it will be interesting to see whether ARCHITECTURE can build on her debut effort at Haydock for a stable in flying form. Hereawi - the second foal from Oaks winner Look Here - and Forgiving Flower shaped with plenty of promise on their first outing and can give the selection most to think about. Peloponnese is partnered by Ryan Moore for the first time and can improve for racing, while any market support behind Snow Moon (the second foal from Oaks/Irish Oaks heroine Sariska) should be noted.

AL KHAFJI failed to show his best when tackling slower underfoot conditions at Newbury in August, but the Derby entrant can make a winning handicap bow if encountering more suitable ground here. Opera Baron is another contender that makes plenty of appeal after winning two on the bounce on the all-weather. Triassic ran an encouraging race Windsor and Recognition remains unexposed on his fourth start.

Each of the five runners can be given a chance, and it will be particularly interesting to see which way 1.5 million euro yearling Propel goes in the betting on debut with Ryan Moore in the plate. The standard-setter MURGAN gets the vote, however, and Peter Chapple-Hyam's colt will appreciate the drop back to this trip having failed to see out 1m4f on his most recent outing. Signed Sealed was bitterly disappointing at Chelmsford and has a point to prove now, but Miro and Swashbuckling shouldn't be overlooked.

LAHAYEB was on the wrong end of a head-bobbing finish over course and distance last week, but that was her first start since May and she could have more to offer this time off the same mark. Salieris Mass remains unexposed after just four starts and he ran a blinder at Ayr most recently, so he heads the dangers. Mica Mika continues in good heart and is also worth a place on the shortlist, along with Raw Impulse and Aleator.

PERFECT MUSE has generally performed well in the face of some stiff assignments this season and, with her sights now lowered, she is fancied to get her head back in front. This is far from a cakewalk, however, with the reliable El Viento sure to be on the premises once more. Clubland won easily at Chester last time and should go well, for all he is yet to score off a mark this high. Gowanharry, Waseem Faris and Bashiba are others who can figure in the finish.

BY RIGHTS was no match for a thriving rival over this trip at Goodwood last time, but she was clear of the remainder and is fancied to gain a deserved victory off the same mark. Sir Geoffrey still has plenty of enthusiasm for the game and made his 107th career start a winning one at Catterick eight days ago. He is a big danger under his penalty, while the likes of Reflation and Toni's A Star have to enter calculations too.
