Denise Foster has a firm grip over this affair, bringing two lightly-raced geldings in the hope of landing the spoils. BALLYCAIRN won a bumper over this trip in December and, although his jumping was somewhat questionable on his latest outing, the six-year-old should build on that performance. Calagogo also merits consideration after running with credit on hurdling debut at Punchestown and further progression could be on the horizon. Completing the shortlist is Petite Rhapsody, who could figure if bouncing back from a lacklustre effort last time out at Hexham.

While this looks like a revival mission for some, LUCA BRASI'S BOY took a big step forward when third over 3m at Hexham earlier this month. The seven-year-old remains off the same mark and looks poised to go well yet again. The handicapper has been loosening his grip on Pasley, however, he may have to settle for minor money on a sounder surface than ideal. Gripper has been edging in the right direction and could get competitive.

The Donald McCain-trained PRESENTANDCOUNTING remains unexposed over fences and may prove a cut above his rivals, who largely have questions to answer. A reproduction of the form he showed when second at Aintree three weeks ago, where he travelled well for a long way, should be enough for him to register his second win over fences. Golden Taipan has the cheekpieces removed on this occasion and may do better, while Stop Talking promises to show more now dropping back in trip.

MALANGEN has improved with each start for this yard and caught the eye with the way he travelled over further at this track last time, indicating that this return to 2m will be in his favour. Finisk River, who attracted support in a higher grade at Cartmel last time, and recent Hexham second For Three (now fitted with cheekpieces) look the best of the remainder.

Recent winning form is in short supply in this Class 3 event but AS YOU LIKE bucks that trend having won at Worcester last month and, having pulled clear with the runner-up on that occasion, a 5lb rise in the handicap is unlikely to prove insurmountable. Elmono showed promise when fourth at Kelso in May, returning from a break, and can do better this time, while Amalfi Doug was only run down late on over course and distance last time and should make a bold bid.

HITMAN FRED arrives here having won three of his last five starts and that includes an easy 14-length victory over C&D last time. A 10lb rise for that success is a concern but he should be capable of defying it. For Jim is another who is in top form right now and he could prove to be the main threat to the selection, ahead of More Buck's.

THIRTYFOURSTITCHES sets the standard after he got off the mark in impressive fashion over 2m4f at Worcester 11 days ago and even a 7lb penalty may not be able to stop him today. Aliym is an obvious danger having won at Down Royal last time but his British mark is 10lb above what he is now rated in Ireland. The rest look to be up against it but Wise Coco is arguably the pick of them.
