Book Of Excuses warrants plenty of respect on his first start over hurdles following a couple of runaway victories between the flags, while Star Date has struck the crossbar on his last couple of starts and should be on the premises again. SEISMIC is preferred, though, receiving 3lb from his two main opponenets. The form of his fourth-placed finish at Downpatrick has been boosted with the fifth winning since and, with McCoy booked to ride, he looks sure to go close.

POLITENESS showed a great attitude when just getting the better of subsequent winner Iguacu at Uttoxeter three weeks ago and, with that confidence-boosting win under his belt, he is fancied to defy a 4lb rise. Koh Samui is officially 5lb well-in following his half-length defeat at Hexham and must enter calculations, while Winter Music, Early Applause and Solway Dandy add further spice to the race.

RAYADOUR is on something of a roll at the moment, backing up three hurdle victories with a game win on the Flat at Ripon last month, and although a further 11lb rise will obviously make life a lot tougher, he might be able to strike again whilst the iron is hot. Pumped Up Kicks is put forward as the biggest danger following her victory between the flags at Largy, while Vasco Pierji merits consideration with Tony McCoy taking over in the saddle.

Morning Time just got the better of ROBIN'S COMMAND in a C&D handicap last month, but Rose Dobbin's seven-year-old can exact his revenge meeting on 2lb better terms this afternoon. Hotgrove Boy is 23lb better off with the selection than when finding him ten lengths too good at Kelso in April and connections will be hoping that he can close the gap, while Sure Thing bounced back to form at Bangor latest and is hard to dismiss in the first-time hood.

SARABAD gamely got the better of a well-fancied Willie Mullins inmate in a beginners event at Downpatrick last month and he looks up to defying an opening mark of 119 on his handicap debut. Me And Ben backed up her Cheltenham Listed victory with a solid fourth-placed effort at Market Rasen and she should give another good account, while four-time course winner Strobe shaped with promise in a couple of starts on the Flat last month and can't be ruled out.

It could pay to side with triple course winner COOL BARANCA in what looks a tricky puzzle for punters to solve. Recent efforts both on the Flat and over timber (here) have been encouraging and she is very well treated on her best form. Mo Rouge makes plenty of appeal on his handicap debut after defying odds of 80/1 to finish a head second in a C&D maiden last time, while Short Takes has every chance if forgiven his lacklustre performance at Hexham.

It wouldn't surprise if this turned out to be a fairly hot bumper with some top stables represented. Gordon Elliott has booked talented apprentice Sean Bowen on Callaghy Beauty and she commands respect off bottom-weight, while Mr Burgees has already shown some ability between the flags and merits consideration on his NH debut. The vote, however, goes to FAGAN, who ran second in a Taylorstown point-to-point in May and his trainer/owner/jockey combination leap out from the paper.
