Gordon Elliott won this race in 2008 and 2011 and can make another successful raid from his County Meath base with NINGBO EXPRESS. Davy Condon's mount gave the smart Plinth a fright at Ballinrobe last week, getting with a length and a half of Aidan O'Brien's Punchestown champion four-year-old second, and a reproduction of that form should prove far too good for these maiden rivals. Should this extra half a mile catch the selection out, C&D runner-up Mo Rouge will be ready to pounce. Royale Django cost 23,000 euros and is an interesting newcomer.

It can pay to side with the Gordon Elliott and Davy Condon partnership again here, this time with KILLEENMORE. The veteran enhanced his trainer's excellent strike-rate at this venue when making a winning debut for the yard over 3m last month and did so with enough in hand to suggest he can defy a 7lb rise with the drop in trip no concern. Only a neck separated Scotch Warrior and Quito Du Tresor when the former scored at Ayr in April and they can put up most resistance.

Gordon Elliott holds another strong hand courtesy of Winter Music and Snoqualmie Chief, with AP McCoy an interesting booking for the latter who drops in trip. Slaney Star is respected on the back of a facile selling hurdle victory but preference is for EARLY APPLAUSE, who has come back down to a workable mark and there was plenty to like about his third in a 2m1f Market Rasen handicap off this rating last month.

Midnight Game sets the standard on the pick of his hurdle form but has failed to sparkle in four starts this year, including when flopping on his chasing bow at Killarney. He has something to prove at present and is likely to be short enough, so could be worth taking on with HOWWOULDUNO. Liam Lennon's inmate opened his chase account at the main expense of Steps To Freedom over this trip at Punchestown and could be the safest option, despite conceding weight all round. Orsippus showed enough when third of five on his chase debut at Kelso to suggest he can pick up an event of this nature.

As usual, an excellent field has assembled for the chasing highlight of the Perth year. Man With Van is an intriguing lightly-raced novice chaser and it will be fascinating if connections choose to come here if he also takes up a scheduled Hexham engagement on Saturday. Hold Em Cowboy was in red-hot form when landing two successes in as many days here last month and should remain competitive off this mark despite an 11lb rise. Fentara also arrives in fine form and commands considerable respect but LAMBORO LAD scored here gamely in April and will surely have been prepared with this notable pot very much in mind.

Gordon Elliott boasts a strong hand but Goal may need this after an absence of over 150 days and stable companion VASCO DU MEE is preferred, a view that champion jockey, AP McCoy, appears to share. The selection has been performing with admirable consistency in large-field Irish handicaps and looks to be on a very workable mark. His consistency can be rewarded. Ballygrooby Bertie stuck on well to repel a well-handicapped sort last time and is expected to be a player again despite a 10lb higher mark, whilst stablemates Talkin Thomas and Parc Des Princes also make some appeal.

Keep an eye on Vayland, due to run at Hexham on Saturday, as he hails from a shrewd Irish yard. He'll be a danger if turning up but BELL WALKS DAY sets a strong standard for the Gordon Elliott/AP McCoy combination after displaying a resilient attitude to land a first success at Ballinrobe last month. His form enjoys a pleasingly upward curve and he can follow up. Peter Bowen is always a name to be feared in the summer months so note any support for his newcomer Ghost River, likewise any move for Portrait Leader for the Keith Dalgleish team.
