FORT SMITH has his own ideas about the game and isn't the easiest to win with, but the six-year-old has a big engine under the bonnet and gets the vote to strike for a powerful trainer/jockey combination. If he does pass up on yet another great opportunity, Glacial Rock might be the closest on hand to take advantage. He had a subsequent winner two and a half lengths behind when third at Carlisle and remains open to tons of improvement. Downpatrick bumper scorer Farewelltocheyenne adds further spice to the race on his first outing for Neil Alexander.

The Absent Mare is sure to prove a popular selection representing Gordon Elliott and Richard Johnson, but she was disappointing over hurdles at Downpatrick only last Friday so a chance is taken on chasing newcomer THROTHETHATCH. His bumper and hurdles form doesn't add up to much, but fences are likely to be the making of this point-to-point winner and Peter Buchanan prefers him to stablemate The Village.

Lochore merits consideration on his first outing since finishing runner-up over 3m at this venue last summer, but it could pay to side with BESCOT SPRINGS. The dual course winner is now 24lb lower than his most recent victory over fences and he may not need to be at his best to notch up a seventh career victory. The Flaming Matron has disappointed that last twice but has every chance if recapturing the form of her second at Musselburgh before that.

MARLEE MASSIE was just over a length behind subsequent winner Top Chief on his latest outing in a selling handicap over the extended 2m4f here last July and he should go very close on his return to action if anywhere near peak fitness. Destiny Awaits produced his best effort yet when third behind the useful Venue at Hexham and he warrants plenty of respect. Solway Prince was behind him last time but still completes the shortlist.

WINGED CRUSADER was an impressive 14-length winner over 3m2f at Kelso last week and a 7lb penalty might not be enough to anchor him if arriving in the same mood. Russian Regent represents the Gordon Elliott stable that won this contest 12 months ago and he shaped as though a step back up in trip would suit when a staying-on third over 2m4f at Navan. Settledoutofcourt and Bertie Milan are both course winners and are certainly capable on best form.

Special Portrait has been a solid and consistent performer in this sphere for a number of years and he can show up well at a track where he has won two of his three visits, but slight preference is for CHANCEOFA LIFETIME. He receives 2lb from the former, despite being 4lb higher in the ratings, and will arrive full of confidence after making a winning hunter chase debut at Kelso last week. Last year's third Scrum V is fit from a successful spin between the flags and he cannot be ruled out either.

7

20:55 Perth (Class 4) (4YO plus)

Scottish Berries Handicap Hurdle

Snapping Turtle can usually be relied upon to run his race and makes plenty of appeal lining up off the same mark as when third in a class 3 handicap at Carlisle, while High Fair shouldn't be underestimated despite returning at 28/1 when winning over the extended 2m4f at this track most recently. The vote, however, goes to ISAACSTOWN LAD. Nicky Richards' charge justified strong market support when winning at Kelso last week and a 7lb penalty may not be enough to stop him with further improvement likely.
