SKILLED looks far superior to these rivals on the evidence of his Wexford success and is tough to oppose. His forecast price does limit his appeal as a betting proposition, though, so Amaze deserves closer consideration. Brian Ellison's gelding pulled up on his return to hurdling at Sedgefield, but that was his first start since finishing second on the Flat last July, and he is entitled to strip fitter here. Abyaat wasn't disgraced on his hurdling bow and Lockedoutaheaven trailed two subsequent winners when finishing a distant third at Hexham, including the impressive Grade 2 scorer Cyrus Darius.

Last year's winner NORTHERN ACRES arrives fresh from success at Newcastle and might be worth following despite a 5lb rise. Honourable Gent trailed the selection in fourth spot on that occasion but might get closer if jumping more effectively. Irish raider Burnt Sienna opened her account on her handicap bow at Kelso and could have more to offer on just her fifth start over timber. Roskilly is another potentially unexposed contender as she achieved a decent level of form on the Flat and sports first-time blinkers on her first outing in handicap hurdle company.

SHAMMICK BOY has been in great nick this term and showed up well for a long way before weakening and falling in the Coral Cup at the Cheltenham Festival. He can bounce back if that experience hasn't had an adverse effect on him. The big danger could be Tom's Article, who appears to have been saved for quicker underfoot conditions after flopping at Carlisle in unsuitable ground last October. Tanerko Emery is an interesting contender as he had plenty of class in his pomp and arrives with his confidence buoyed by success in selling company.

It might be worth following ISLAND HEIGHTS after he opened his chasing account with success at Musselburgh. The assessor has raised him 8lb which looks fair and there should be plenty more to come. The selection did jump to the left in Edinburgh and a repeat of that might open the door for Leighinmohr, who also arrives fresh from a confidence-boosting success at Clonmel. Gunna Be A Devil had a future winner in arrears when scoring at Taunton and looks the pick of the remainder.

CREEVYTENNANT had the future Scottish National winner Wayward Prince in arrears when landing a competitive veterans' chase at Ascot last month. The 11-year-old has relatively few miles on the clock and is backed to defy an 8lb hike in the weights for a second C&D success. Filbert bounced back from a disappointing effort at the Cheltenham Festival with a solid third at Ludlow last time. That son of Oscar can get on the premises with last year's winner Majala, who hasn't been in the best of form this season but cannot be overlooked back at this venue.

C&D winner RAILWAY DILLON found one rival too strong in each of his hunter chase starts this term, but a confidence-boosting success between the flags in the interim should have done him plenty of good and he is given the vote. Royal Chatelier scored by 10 lengths in a point recently and is shortlisted with Master Butcher, who has also been running well in the pointing field. Kelso scorer Wayupinthesky is no forlorn hope either in what looks an open contest.

C&D winner ONE FOR HOCKY has been progressing well this term and was far from disgraced when third at Doncaster in December. The return to a sounder surface looks ideal so he shades the vote over Apachee Prince, who was an impressive six-length winner in a novice hurdle at Kelso and could have plenty more to offer under a 7lb penalty. The Irish raider Eshtiaal clearly deserves plenty of respect after his recent effort at Wexford, but the assessor has taken few chances with him as he races from a 14lb higher mark here. Solway Dandy has been banging on the door and looks the pick of the remainder.
