FIRST MAN was an easy winner at Stratford before following that effort up when a solid second at Fontwell. A break should have done the five-year-old good and although life will be tougher now up 13lb, he has enough scope to keep progressing and is unexposed over this distance. Wise Coco recorded her only career success at this venue 12 months ago and has looked in good form here the last twice. Condarcia might prove best of the remainder.

Eleanor Grove struggled in a couple of bumpers last season, though she shaped like a long-term project on both occasions and perhaps this step up in distance over hurdles will be more to her liking. Proper Ticket has won her last two at Kelso and Southwell, but she might struggle to give 12lb to ALPHA CARINAE. A point-to-point winner before hammering the opposition in a Newcastle bumper on her Rules debut, the 62,000-pounds purchase has Richard Johnson on board now and should take some stopping.

MINT GOLD shaped well when third at Uttoxeter on his comeback and could build on that first start over fences. Lucinda Russell's six-year-old was also making his first appearance since a wind operation, and might have more to offer off a mark of 109. Beautiful Ben has winning C&D form and was successful at Southwell earlier this month, making all impressively, while Cool Valley makes some appeal after finishing at Kelso last week.

MIGHTY THUNDER is 16lb higher than when landing this prize 12 months ago, but he ended last season by recording a career best when runner-up in a Pertemps Qualifier at Musselburgh in February and the seven-year-old may have more to offer this campaign. I'd Better Go Now won well at Doncaster in March and is respected despite a 10lb rise from the handicapper. Others to note include Western Rules and Justatenner.

LA BAGUE AU ROI was still in contention when unseating her rider at the Cheltenham Festival and Warren Greatrex's classy mare makes plenty of appeal, despite giving weight all round. Her record fresh, apart from last season when pulling up in the Charlie Hall, is excellent. Jarveys Plate's best performance over fences came first time out at Chepstow last October and he could be fairly handicapped. Very First Time also enters calculations having not appeared to stay in the Midlands National.

PAMMI was no match for an easy winner over C&D on her most recent hurdles outing, but Jim Goldie's mare can return to winning ways having been impressive here the time before. Methodtothemadness is entitled to come forward from her return at Hexham at the beginning of the month and she enters the equation along with Florrie Boy, who scored at Market Rasen when last seen in March.

Lake Baikal struck over 2m here in July before finishing runner-up over the same trip at Southwell, and connections will be hoping this stiffer test can unlock some improvement and enable him to get back to winning ways. Of more interest, however, is JOLY MAKER, who represents the same owner as Lake Baikal and already has winning distance form in the book. Any money for Blue Monday on his return from a break would be worth heeding.

HARBOUR FORCE makes strong appeal on his C&D victory off 6lb lower in July and could benefit from a return to this venue, having run below his best at Market Rasen last time. Apache Creek, No Cruise Yet and Nye Bevan are others to watch out for, with the former nominated as the main danger as he has dropped to an attractive mark and goes up to this trip for the first time.
