MILANSTORM shaped when fifth at Uttoxeter last month as though he would appreciate stepping up to 3m and the son of Milan can finally get off the mark over hurdles. Big Penny has placed twice at Southwell during the summer and is expected to be in the mix along with handicap debutant Teme Spirit, who also makes her first start for Martin Todhunter.

RED MISSILE cost 38,000gns at the Tattersalls Horses-in-Training sale last month following his first success for William Haggas on the level at Lingfield. The gelding boasts a decent level of ability and is of considerable interest now going over timber for Lucinda Russell. Billy The Squid can enter the reckoning despite coming here on the back of unseating his rider at Southwell, while Ten Thousand Stars is capable of improvement having finished third on his hurdling debut at Sedgefield.

Nigel Twiston-Davies tends to send one of his better novice chase prospects to this event, having won it on numerous occasions this century, and REDFORD ROAD attempts to continue the Naunton handler's fine record. A more than useful novice hurdler, having won a Grade 2 over 3m at Cheltenham in December, he contested the Albert Bartlett when clearly not at his best but the impression left was that he would achieve more once switched to the larger obstacles. Saglawy warmed up with a spin on the level at Haydock earlier in the month and boasts some decent hurdles form in Ireland, while Big Bad Bear progressed well last season until disappointing at Wetherby and appeals most of the remainder.

Check My Pulse converted a couple of podium finishes into a comfortable victory at Uttoxeter last month, but faces a tougher task this time around, having to concede weight all-round. Percy's Word is interesting following almost two years off the track representing Dan Skelton, while Universal Gleam is rated 95 on the Flat and now tries hurdling with Brian Hughes in the saddle. However, preference is for POPPA POUTINE, who changed hands for 100,000 pounds following his sole point-to-point appearance and represents a team who do well at this venue.

STONER'S CHOICE, who wasn't disgraced in a pair of Listed bumpers last winter, made a pleasing hurdles debut when second over track and trip last month and a cleaner round of jumping could hand Fergal O'Brien's five-year-old a first victory here. Universal Folly is an interesting newcomer to this sphere and has to be respected, while Copperless was third on his only outing of last season and the brother to six-time winner Copper Kay is likely to appreciate jumping obstacles on his first appearance since undergoing a wind operation.

Everything points to a big run from the lightly-weighted KATALYSTIC. Both of his career victories to date have been recorded at this venue, including when producing a career-best performance last month, and there should be plenty more to come on only his second start of the season. River Icon also boasts winning course form and was impressive in victory at Cartmel when last sighted. He and Dancing In The Sky, who would have been in the mix but for a last-fence fall at Stratford latest, make up the shortlist.

It could pay to side with BLOORIEDOTCOM in what looks a tricky puzzle for punters to solve. He has a 211-day absence to overcome, but was in cracking form earlier this year and won with enough in hand at Musselburgh last time to suggest that he could defy a further 9lb hike in the ratings. Tegerek and Kajaki also hold solid claims from the head of the weights, while Chez Hans is respected making his handicap debut off an opening mark of 109. He arrives fit from the Flat.

CRAIGMOR drops in class after unseating his rider at the first here earlier this month and would be tough to stop if back to the sort of form that saw him finish second here last month. The eight-year-old stays this trip well and would appreciate a sound surface. Cage Of Fear seemed to improve for the switch to fences when second at Market Rasen last time out and is worth noting ahead of Craiganboy, who ended his spring campaign in good form when second at Ayr in March.

TALKTOMENOW wasn't at his best last season for Warren Greatrex, but he looked unsuited by testing ground at Catterick and Ascot during the winter and could relish this return to better ground. Now with new owners after a wind operation, the six-year-old looks to be on a favourable mark of 107 before Jack Tudor's 5lb claim is taken into account. Petite Ganache has finished third here the last twice and is expected to be competitive again, while Mead Vale returned to form when fourth here last month and is unexposed over this sort of distance.
