GABRIEL OAK displayed some promise on his second Flat outing when fifth at Haydock earlier this month and the son of Sir Percy is likely to have been well schooled ahead of his hurdling bow. Is Fantastic warrants respect coming over from Ireland for Gordon Elliott with Richard Johnson taking the ride, while Guardia Top's hurdles form would entitle her to a place on the shortlist.

MURPHY'S LAW was very disappointing on his chasing bow when only beating one rival home at Hexham at the start of the month. However, he had excuses on that occasion, having bled from the nose, and, in a contest that lacks much depth, could easily bounce back to form. Ryalex is entitled to be in the mix based on his efforts last season, while the drop in trip could aid the cause of Pat's Oscar.

DON'T SHOUT boasts an excellent pedigree, being a full-brother to Grade 2-winning hurdler Lisnagar Oscar and his dam being a sister to Whisper, and he is expected to make a decent impact in this sphere having shown promise in his two bumper outings. Road To Dubai has the strongest hurdles form in the contest but may want further to be seen to best effect, while others to note include Never Be Enough, a C&D winner on heavy ground last month, and Ashington.

A match race where WHOLESTONE is fully expected to prove a class above Ballyhome. A smart hurdler at his best, winning three Grade 2 events, he represents a stable who are not afraid to send a decent prospect to this contest, most notably subsequent Grade 1-winner Flying Angel (2016), and the return to this distance will benefit him on his fencing bow. Ballyhome has shown ability over hurdles, winning a handicap hurdle at Market Rasen in March, and has the potential to do well in this sphere, albeit at a lower level than the selection.

It is likely GREY DIAMOND will take a step forward on his first outing for Nigel Twiston-Davies, who boasts a good record at this meeting, and he could be well treated off 120 judged on his easy Chepstow success in April. A reapplied hood may also help the five-year-old and he can score at the main expense of Birch Vale, a winner at Hexham before unseating her rider at Cartmel, and the returning Tayzar.

One Forty Seven represents last year's winning trainer/jockey combination and must be respected, but Lucinda Russell saddles three of the five runners and CHANCEITON looks the pick of them. A model of consistency and very versatile, the eight-year-old was beaten just a neck off 2lb lower here latest and might not need to improve much on that effort to land the spoils. Boy's On Tour rates best of the rest.

CHOCOLAT NOIR is holding her form well at present and followed up her Cartmel success with a very creditable second-placed effort under a penalty at Hexham. A mark of 101 remains workable for this daughter of Yeats and she gets the nod ahead of the returning Misfits and Viscount Wilson, an Irish raider who has been busy on the Flat and over hurdles this month.
