QUALIFY is taken to open his account after posting some encouraging efforts. He was a staying on third over 2f further at Pontefract last time, suggesting a thorough test of stamina would suit. Although well beaten on his debut, Idarah gave the impression that he would come on for the experience and should do better this time. Armenian Heritage was fancied to make a winning debut in Italy last month, eventually finishing third. She looks sure to come on for that effort and should go close.

BLACK AS SOOT put in a better effort when dead-heating for fourth place in a nursery handicap last time. He can improve once again, especially if he gets some cut in the ground this afternoon. King Alfie won his maiden last month, but disappointed in a handicap last time. Even so, the drop in class he encounters today should see him play a leading role. Wee Charlie Castle has been frustrating, but a repeat of his best would put him in the picture.

ROBINZAL opened his account in a modest maiden at Catterick back in June. He showed battling qualities that day, and can follow up despite the lack of a recent outing. Zendaro was second at Catterick just half a length behind the selection, but re-opposes on 1lb worse terms this time. We could witness another close run thing between the pair this time. Diamond Josh has shown some ability and looks capable of winning a similar race in the near future.

This shouldn't take too much winning, so Barry Hills' consistent filly NAMU is taken to open her account. She failed to stay the 7f on this course last time after showing plenty of speed, so the drop back to 6f should work the oracle today. Enrichetta improved on her debut effort to finish a close third behind Queen's Pudding last time, and looks the obvious danger. Any move for the Howard Johnson newcomer Takanewa should be noted.

WHISPERING DEATH beat Let It Be by 2 lengths when they met over C&D two weeks ago. Although Let It Be is 7lb better off at the weights this time, the selection has a progressive look about him and can improve sufficiently to confirm the placings. Severely appreciated the step up to 2m when landing a modest handicap last time, and this lightly raced filly should improve again. Spitting Image likes this track but probably needs a stiffer test of stamina.

17:05 Redcar (Class 5) (3YO plus)

TAGULA BAY put in a rare poor performance last time, but previous efforts give her a chance in this maiden. She chased home the progressive Reverance at Ripon in August, and a reproduction of that run should suffice. Zidane was just denied by the useful Vanadium on his debut back in May. It is a little worrying that he has not raced since, but should win a race of this nature. Westlake Bond had good form as a two-year-old, but has not raced for nearly a year.

Despite his advancing years TOPTON still has the ability to win in this grade. He finds himself on a reasonable mark today, and was noted making late headway behind Tony Tie at Newcastle last time. Previous C&D winner Charlie Tango put in a fair effort when runner-up here last time, and has to be respected in this modest handicap. Newcorp Lad won on his penultimate start at Beverley, but could not reproduce that effort behind Dispol Foxtrot last time.
