Verdict

Many with chances in a big field to begin the feature-race action. AFRICAN PRIDE bounced back to form when a good second over track and trip last time, and on that form should have the measure of KARATE KID. Stablemates ECHO CHECK and CATFISH are distance suited and remain competitive under penalties after career-best last-start victories. Oaks heroine LITTLEMISSMILLION sets a lofty standard but is worth opposing under 62kg following a 7-month layoff. INDIAN OCEAN was caught late in a 2200m feature on the Inside track last time. She's weighted to turn the tables on conqueror INTO DANCING, though the latter continues to improve and could do so sufficiently to confirm her superiority. FIRST WISH is better off at the weights with that rival on their 10 September clash and a 2-point penalty for beating male opposition recently shouldn't prevent another bold bid. TOMYRIS, RAHHABBA and KUBU also have the means to get into the picture.

Verdict

Quality renewal. COSMIC SPEED was dropped out from the widest draw when a fast-finishing fifth in a 1450m Grade 2 last time so this extended trip from an inside gate will suit. I'M A FIREBALL was second from the front that day and should find the lead again from gate 1, though does have questions to answer over this distance. CHOISAANADA is closely matched with the selection on that form so has to be respected. ZEITZ is at the top of his game and will be competitive with this track and its long run-in likely to suit. CALLA LAGOON, GRAND EMPIRE and SPLITTHEEIGHTS aren't taken lightly. Go wide.

SA Derby winner CURIOUS GIRL ran well in defeat under a big weight against male opposition on her seasonal debut. She is unbeaten in two appearances at this track, is distance suited and will strip fitter so is hard to oppose under the conditions. SUNSET RIOT and CARE FORGOT made their seasonal comebacks at Grade 2 level - both will be more competitive in this grade. KING HARALD has run well in defeat at his level recently and should acquit himself competitively once more. MASTERSHIP was second over 1450m on his reappearance and will be better suited to this extended trip with that outing under his belt. Versatile PLEASE BE TRUE is at the top of his game and a 4-point penalty for winning last time isn't likely to halt his momentum. BRISTOL HERCULES, QUICKFREEZE, CHAPBOOK and MASTER SPY could also have roles to play.
