ROUEN ran a race full of promise when second in the Brocklesby on his debut. On that occasion he ran a little green in the early stages but with that experience under his belt he should be able to go one better here. Carlitos Spirit was also green on his debut at Lingfield when running on nicely once the penny had dropped and he represents a yard that know the time of day at this level. Mark Wallace has made a good start with his youngsters and Jamie Spencer is an eye catching booking for his charge Espartano.

This is a moderate race and it might be best to concentrate on the two with the highest BHB ratings. Ballybeg has a tendency to hang in his races but there is no doubting he is capable of landing this sort of event. ZABEEL TOWER put a string of creditable efforts together late last season before running below par on his final start on heavy ground and he is probably the safest selection presuming he is fully tuned up. Night Groove, Aboyne and The Jailer have all been in fair form on the all-weather but it would be a little bit of a surprise if they were good enough to win.

GLAD BIG has been in excellent form on the AW so far this year and beat a big field last time out at Kempton. Although he is now four years old the trainer has reported that he is a late maturing type, hopefully there is still some improvement there and he is selected to carry on the good work on this switch to turf. Councellor has been called some names in the past but on the whole he has had a good AW campaign, it would be no surprise to see him in the shake-up. First Show won a maiden at this course last October and has had two runs to sharpen him up recently on the AW, the last of which can be forgiven because he was drawn badly. It would be no surprise to see him put up a bold effort here.

Following sprinters once they hit form is normally the best policy when trying to work out sprint handicaps. One who fits that category is the hat-trick seeking Native Title whose confidence is sky high since winning a claimer on his penultimate start, he looks sure to be bang there. A chance is taken on MALAPROPISM who is a tough and consistent sprinter and although he only beat one home on his first run this year a blanket could have been thrown over the whole field. That run should have put him cherry ripe for this afternoon and he is selected to gain his first win since October 2004. Silver Dane won at Yarmouth at a big price 12 days ago and although there seemed no fluke about the victory a repeat performance can not be guaranteed.

Newcomers from the Sir Michael Stoute yard always need the utmost respect. He has two in this event, the first being Belanak who is a colt by Sinndar but jockey bookings suggest that most eyes will be on DREAM PRIZE. This Peintre Celebre colt is out of a Dam who won over this trip in Germany and is also a half-brother to a high class middle distance performer in Night Petticoat, the market should be most informative. Brian Meehan has made a good start to the season so it would be wise to keep an eye on his Jack Absolute who is a half-brother to Poise. Of those that have had racecourse experience the one who looks most likely is The Last Drop who shaped with promise in a Newbury 7f maiden last season.

Top weight Lake Chini is a consistent type who should be thereabouts but will probably find it difficult to win off this mark. The interesting one is ZIDANE who is from a good family and made a pleasing start to his career when 2nd in a Nottingham maiden at the start of last season. He reappeared 5 months later and made no mistake in a similar event, he beat some moderate rivals on that occasion so the handicapper has had to put him on a reasonable mark, given his connections he looks sure to exploit it. Greenwood is a hard horse to predict but there is no doubt he is more than capable of taking a hand in this event if things drop right for him.
