Hugo Palmer Saturday runners blog: 'We need to win this to get in to the Royal Ascot race'

RAN AMOK

CHESTER 1.35

Ran Amok is drawn well in stall two, but he is some way out of the handicap, and in some ways he’s there to give his owners a day out.  However, he has just had a second wind operation, and we’ve had plenty of rain here earlier in the week, so he will enjoy the cut in the ground.  There’s also no track cut away in use for this meeting, meaning the speed should hold up well so we’ll give it a go.

PENNY TIME

CHESTER 2.10

Penny Time is drawn high in stall nine, but actually that matters less over the seven furlongs trip here. This is his first try on turf, we know he wants cut in the ground which he should get here.  I think he’s improved for being gelded, and if he can get a nice trip round, not get too far back, I think he can go really well.

VINCENT ROCKS

CHESTER 3.23

Vincent Rocks is another drawn out wide, but again, that’s less of an issue over this distance.  A turning track suits him; he likes give in the ground, and he runs as if he’s crying out for this mile and a quarter trip, so we’re looking forward to giving this a go.

RUBY’S ANGEL

YORK 3.35

Ruby’s Angel is a course and distance winner, and she did well to win at Chester last time.  We knew we had to win that race to ensure she got into this race, it’s a valuable contest and has been the early season target all along, so it's a case of job done to this point at least.

She looks fantastic, I’m really happy with her, she’s in off a very low weight, so we have a young jockey in William Pyle riding her as he could do the weight.  If everything goes right for her I can see her running a very big race, she’s exciting.

TRICKY TEL

CHESTER 4.00

Tricky Tel is drawn well in three, we’re trying to win this to get into the Palace Of Holyrood at Royal Ascot next week, so fingers-crossed.  He’s in great shape, loves Chester, and has the all-important low draw.

STARDOM GLORY

YORK 4.15

I hope Stardom Glory has learned a lot from his debut run here last month, he ran very green that day, but he finished with a rattle to take second.  I think in future we’ll be looking at seven furlongs for him, but if he sharpens up for that first run, he should go there with a realistic chance over the six.

CONFERNATION

LEICESTER 6.30

Confernation is another who should have sharpened up for his debut run, and we’re just dropping him back half a furlong in trip to seven.  He should handle cut in the ground, he looks very well at home, and I hope he can go very well here.

LUCKY CAMINO

LEICESTER 7.00

Lucky Camino has finished second at Nottingham on his two starts to date, so he comes here in good form.  He likes ease in the ground, which he should get, and he’s been training great, I’m very happy with him, and I think we can be very hopeful.
