Verdict
La Higuera recorded a narrow win at Wetherby before following up in emphatic fashion at Southwell but, although respected, preference is for SPARKLING DUKE. The seven-year-old returned to form in no uncertain terms over C&D last time out and looks likely to go close in similar conditions. Colonial Empire drops in class after finishing second at Catterick and won't be far away either.
Expert View Verdict
Point winner SPARKLING DUKE has been in fine form since returning to rules this term. He had plenty in hand when winning here last time so a 7lb rise looks lenient and he's proven on heavy ground. Colonial Empire was a touch unlucky to be caught late last time having travelled strongly but challenged too early off a strong pace. He is on a dangerous mark judged on his old form and looks the biggest threat to the selection. Clondaw Royale boasts a similar profile and should also remain competitive despite a 4lb rise for his last time out win.
