Expert Analysis
A race that is rather clinging onto its Grade 2 status, and this year’s renewal probably represents useful novice form at best. It was run at a solid enough pace (winner’s final 4f of 55.26s for 105.1% finishing speed) on ground that was “good to soft” judged on times.
LUMP SUM (h142 here, 136 previously) took this readily enough in the end, paying a small compliment to Jeriko Du Reponet (now rated h144) in the process. He was held up again but got there sooner this time, leading 2 out, jumping left there and at the last, and asserting on the run-in, kept up to his work. With a good stable, he should stay 20f.
FIERCELY PROUD (h136 here and previously) ran well again but may have reached his ceiling for now, tracking the pace before disputing the lead from 3 out to the next, no extra only on the run-in. He is the type to make his mark in handicaps provided this effort is not over-assessed.
IDY WOOD (h126 here and previously) ran to form despite seeming to find the trip on the sharp side under these conditions, leading when making a mistake at the first, prominent until outpaced 3 out then rallying quite well.
HELNWEIN (h124 here and previously) had plenty on his plate and ran creditably, not unduly knocked about when held.
PANJARI (h121 here, 131 previously) cut out much of the running before weakening when making a mistake 2 out.
WILLIETHEBUILDER (h106 here, 124 previously) closed up briefly before 2 out before weakening.
