Verdict

No fewer than 11 of these ran in the Galway Plate in July, which was won by King Alexander. One of six runners for Willie Mullins, he's been raised 8lb for that success and preference on this occasion is for DOWNMEXICOWAY. Henry de Bromhead's runner came off the bridle a long way out at Ballybrit before plugging on for fifth and stepping up to 3m may enable him to reverse form with the Galway winner, runner-up Conyers Hill and fourth Nowwhatdoyouthink. Eric McNamara has won this three times and French Dynamite, third in last year's renewal, may fare best of his four runners after a nice prep run over hurdles earlier this month.

Expert View Verdict

A number of these contested the Galway Plate last time with King Alexander defeating Conyers Hill. They both hold fair claims again but the former has shot up the weights while the latter is consistent but frustrating and has already left a number of good opportunities behind. There wasn't much between Nowwhatdoyouthink and DOWNMEXICOWAY as they fought for a place behind the principals and the pair could have this between them. The former will appreciate the step back up in trip while the latter has been finishing off his races as if staying distances will suit. He brings in some strong Grade 1 novice form and looks on a generous mark so gets the verdict. At a bigger price vetteran Perceval Legallois is of some interest despite his jumping issues. The former Paddy Power winner ran well in this in 2024 and returned to form off a reduced rating on his penultimate start.
