Verdict
The Dog Thief won his point-to-point and ran well on his debut under Rules for Tom Ellis when a 20-length second at Carlisle, weakening late on after racing up with the pace. He can go well but preference is for TOBYSHILL, a fellow point-to-point winner who finished fifth for the Twiston-Davies team at Ascot. Now with Nick Scholfield, he looks worth another chance in what appears to be a weaker contest. Plains Drifter is next best.
Expert View Verdict
PLAINS DRIFTER has placed on both of his starts so far and sets the standard on form. His debut runner up effort over C&D has been boosted in a Grade 2 and a repeat of that should be enough here. Tobyshill shaped well first time out in a better race despite going off too quickly. That form has been franked so if going a more sensible gallop he could be a big threat. Point winner The Dog Thief was only beaten by a potentially classy rival first time up and should also provide a threat.
