Expert Analysis

Not quite as good a renewal as 12 months before, when Tarnawa beat Alpine Star, though some of the same runners were involved, and it seemed rather muddling, with a few of the better fillies/mares underperforming and a couple of outsiders arriving late to pick off their rivals. A final 400m finishing speed of 103.6% is close to par, however, and it would be wrong to make many excuses. The first three came nearer to the centre than those who followed them home.

ROUGIR (113 here, 107 previously) had been consistent in defeat, if seeming slightly limited at this level, this year, but put it all together to run her best race and win this big prize, held up in rear from her wide draw, still with plenty to do 500m out staying on doggedly to get it on the nod.

GRAND GLORY (113 here, 116 previously) ran creditably if perhaps fractionally below the form of her Romanet win, staying on steadily from mid-field to lead 150m out but done on the nod despite continuing to run on.

EUDAIMONIA (111 here, 106 previously) chose a good occasion to run a new personal best, bumped at the start and quite free in rear, having to manoeuvre her way through traffic in the closing stages but staying on well to be never nearer.

AUDARYA (111 here, 116 previously) lost a race she looked like winning, not even placing in the end, and may require some finessing these days, tracking the leader and going well before shaken up to lead 250m out, but soon ridden and run down by three who came from further back and wider than her.

THUNDERING NIGHTS (107 here, 113 previously) ran respectably in the end but made quite heavy work of it, slowly into stride and mid to rear, tapped for toe again 500m out then staying on.

ZEYAADAH (105 here, 111 previously) ran respectably, slowly away and travelling comfortably again but only briefly looking as if she might come through from mid-division.

SIBILA SPAIN (104 here, 107 previously) was unmolested up front, a couple of lengths up mid-race, but was soon beaten when headed 250m out.

INCARVILLE (103 here, 105 previously) was always mid-field.

AMBITION (91 here, 112 previously), seen infrequently, usually runs to a smart level when she is but did not here.

JOAN OF ARC (90 here, 110 previously) is capable of smart form but is not exactly consistent, and was in trouble some way out.

PALMAS (88 here, ? previously)

BURGARITA (87 here, 108 previously) ran her first poor race.

IKAT (? here and previously)

BABYLONE (? here, 100 previously)
