A rather disappointing turnout, with Trueshan pulled out on account of the “going”, but it delivered a tremendous finish and a most popular winner, Stradivarius landing this prize for the third time in four years and having to show great resolution to do so. The third got to dictate matters (race finishing speed of 113.4% shows he went anything but fast) and limits the strict view of the form, but there is little doubt that the first two are capable of very smart form, or possibly even better. The runners came centre to stand side in the home straight and rail movements increased the advertised race distance by 22 yards (possibly crucial as it happens). 

STRADIVARIUS (113 here, 118 previously) has lost his air of invincibility at staying trips but none of the splendid attitude that has served him so well over the years, pulling this out of the fire only very late on, having raced in second before disputing the lead over 2f out, seeming to be getting just the worse of a ding-dong battle until forcing his head in front near the line.  

SPANISH MISSION (113 here, 117 previously) lost no caste in narrow defeat against a most resolute rival who has just a bit more raw speed than him, held up in last of four before improving steadily to dispute the lead over 2f out, edging ahead for a while but headed close home. He should continue to go well in staying races, especially ones which test stamina more than this one.

THE GRAND VISIR (104 here and previously) probably limits the view of the bare form, getting an easy lead of several lengths and rousted along 4f out before getting run down a furlong and a bit later.

STRATUM (87 here, 108 previously) has not got the most solid form of late but should have done better even so, in third until driven over 3f out and soon beaten.
