A fiercely competitive three-year-old handicap kicks off proceedings and a chance can be given to most. Top-weight Try The Chance has edged up 5lb for his neck victory at Carlisle earlier in the month while Yair Hill carries an extra 4lb having scored at Lingfield when last sighted. Both are handicapped to go close, as is Indian Jack, who drops back in trip after his 1m victory at Newmarket recently. However, it might be worth chancing that the return to 7f will suit CAPE CLASSIC, who was far from disgraced when third in a warm sprint handicap at Headquarters latest.

Although he's the most exposed runner in the line-up, Benandonner cannot be ruled out at a specialist track where he has winning form to his name. Although Mike Murhpy's charge would be dangerous if allowed a soft lead, he is vulnerable to less exposed rivals and the vote goes to Luca Cumani's MUNDANA. The selection landed a moderate Yarmouth handicap last month but shaped as if this longer trip would suit and, in receipt of weight all round, is expected to go close. Primaeval appears best on polytrack and Truism reserves his best efforts for Goodwood. Of more interest is Invincible Soul, second over C&D in the Brittannia Stakes last term. He's lost his way since but first-time blinkers may focus his energies.

The front-running The Bells O Peover is 11lb well in on official figures after his Pontefract romp earlier in the month, however, he has already been beaten once under a penalty and is likely to suffer the same fate here with the tough-as-teak Ivan Vasilevich unlikely to give him a breather at any point in this contest. It is quite feasible Dubawi Dancer may be capable of reversing Beverley placings with the first-named on 5lb better terms, but this race represents a steep rise in grade and vote goes to MIDNIGHT OIL, runner-up in a 0-105 handicap not run to suit at Doncaster last time.

This looks a more realistic assignment for John Gosden's trailblazer Buthelezi after he was outclassed in the St Leger last time and he is closely matched with Barbican based on their Newmarket running during May. However, the last-named needs to prove his stamina extends to this longer trip and both may have to settle for a supporting role behind HIGHLAND CASTLE. David Elsworth's gelding was eased down in the closing stages when landing a conditions race at Salisbury last time and looks ready for this step up in grade. Solar Sky, ahead of the selection when second in the Gordon Stakes, is another to consider, although he is now dropped in trip.

BOW TO NO ONE was narrowly denied over C&D twice last season off higher marks and looks of serious interest now only 2lb higher than when scoring at York last time. The main danger appears to be Colloquial, who seems to come to life whenever taking to this track. Henry Candy's charge won over C&D when last sighted but, at the age of ten, may have to settle for a supporting role off a 5lb higher mark. The step up in trip is expected to suit Elrasheed, given he is a half-brother to Akmal (a 2m winner in Group 3 company), and with Silvestre De Sousa getting the leg up, a big run looks likely.

Oneladyowner endured a torrid time at Goodwood earlier in the month when encountering trouble in running and he didn't seem to handle the track at Newmarket last time when failing to justify favouritism. David Brown's three-year-old is held in high regard and looks weighted to strike when things drop right, nevertheless, preference is for KING FERDINAND in view of his previous course form. Andrew Balding's charge was denied by just a head over C&D in July and, if his latest effort at Newmarket can be forgiven, he holds strong claims off a 4lb higher mark. Louis The Pious and Sirius Prospect are others to consider now reverting to 6f.
