With no previous hurdling experience to go on here, the market may prove the best guide as to what is expected of these NH debutants. A Little Bit Dusty won three of his four all-weather starts earlier in the year and Bill Turner is sure to have him well prepared for his first taste of jumping, but slight preference is for MEMORABILIA. John Ferguson's charge has also won three times (up to 1m2f) on polytrack this year and appeared to relish the step up to 1m4f when signing off his Flat campaign with a gutsy second at Pontefract in June, so this greater test of stamina could play to his strengths. Saqil, representing the respected Tim Vaughan and Richard Johnson partnership, is also considered.

Khorun and Stage Acclaim both have winning form in this sphere to their name but they look up against it here as they take on a potentially smart chaser in the shape of RED HARBOUR. Although a Grade 3 winner over hurdles, rated 130 at his best in that sphere, the Old Vic gelding had always looked a chaser in the making and he made a good start over fences when narrowly going down to a subsequent winner over 2m4f at Haydock in May. Paul Nicholls' charge should be much wiser for that experience and can take this contest before going on to better things.

On his first outing since scoring at Taunton in March, FOUNTAINS FLYPAST looked certain to pick up where he left off at Newton Abbot over 2m1f earlier this month before unseating his rider at the penultimate flight. The eventual winner of that contest has gone in again since and racing off the same mark today, now returned to handicaps, Anthony Honeyball's seven-year-old can gain compensation. Should the selection fail to put in a clear round again, Mr Harmoosh will be ready to capitalise as the burden of a 7lb penalty for his comfortable opening hurdles success at Plumpton is unlikely to prevent another bold bid. Laudatory looks best of the remainder.

Intac completed a Hereford 2m3f double with minimal fuss on the final day of last month but has much more on his plate today as he steps up in class and in the handicap. Rippling Ring has made an encouraging start to his chasing career and has been given a chance by the assessor on his first handicap start over fences, while Exulto has been knocking hard on the door recently and looks sure to have his say again. Preference in an open heat, however, is for OCEANA GOLD. Emma Lavelle's seven-year-old was narrowly held for second by the last-named off the same terms in a competitive contest at Newton Abbot last month but remains on an upward curve after only five starts (two wins) in this sphere and another bold bid looks assured.

Midnight Fun bids for a five-timer today but he was the main beneficiary when the favourite fell in a 3m novices' contest at Stratford last month and there has to be a question mark over that form. The handicapper has also taken no chances and of more appeal is REY NACARADO, who represents the red-hot Charlie Longsdon operation. The six-year-old was last seen landing a competitive class 2 chase over 3m3f at Newbury in March and if able to reproduce that sort of form over smaller obstacles, he should be able to capitalise on a rating that is 5lb inferior in this sphere. Dais Return confirmed his stamina for this trip when scoring at Stratford in May and must be considered on his return to action, despite a 12lb hike.

A tricky puzzle for punters to solve with no fewer than six last time out winners lining up. Definite Dawn falls into that category but is likely to find things tougher now switching to handicap company, while Or Sing About and Ballagio have no margin for error racing off higher marks today. The vote goes to ORION STAR, who clearly loves it round here and completed a C&D double with enough in hand latest to suggest a 6lb rise may not be enough to halt him. Call At Midnight, who appeared to have the race in the bag when falling at the last in a 3m2f handicap at Plumpton recently, rates the biggest danger.

Dual bumper winner COCK OF THE ROCK made a promising start to his hurdling career, finishing well clear of third when narrowly finding a more experienced rival too good over 3m at Worcester in July. The Keith Goldsworthy-trained gelding should know more about the jumping game now and can go one better today. Point-to-point scorer Miss Kalifa is interesting on her NH debut for Peter Bowen and should be monitored for support in the betting market, but Viviani's third in a decent novices' event over 2m at Worcester last week suggests he will give the selection most to think about if getting this longer trip.
