FIRST FANDANGO ran out a cosy winner on his hurdling debut at Ffos Las and although this looks more competitive, there could be plenty more improvement to come from him over hurdles and he can make the long journey from South Wales a worthwhile one. The Starboard Bow made a winning debut over hurdles at Musselburgh and he commands the utmost respect. Hurdling newcomer Baralaka is worth a look and Vosges is also shortlisted.

NAFAATH beat Saveiro by 18 lengths in a maiden hurdle here in March last year and was subsequently far from disgraced in a Grade 1 hurdle at Aintree. He could prove very tough to beat if taking to larger obstacles at the first time of asking. Wind Shuffle makes plenty of appeal on his chasing debut and he is respected while none of Saveiro, Lord Villez or Si Bien could be confidently ruled out.

It could pay to take a chance on NATIVE COLL. He has not won since March 2008 but he has dropped back to an attractive handicap mark and the booking of Graham Lee is a big positive. Something Silver is also attractively handicapped on his best form and it would be no surprise to see him play a leading role, while Festival King disappointed at Kelso last time but it would be foolish to leave him out of calculations here.

Isla Pearl Fisher is seeking a hat-trick but he is now 15lb higher than when recording the first of his two wins and the handicapper might have him just about right now. EYRE SQUARE was in the process of running a big race before taking a tumble at Newbury last month and he can certainly make his presence felt here with a clear round. Seeking Power and Innominate are others with claims in a wide open contest.

TORTA NEL CIELO narrowly got the better of What a Dream in a novices event at Kelso last time out but can extend the winning margin now upped in trip on his handicap debut. However, plenty of these rivals also need considering now stepping up in distance in what looks a competitive contest. Ballymacduff and Charlie Bucket both made the frame at Kelso recently and should go well once more, while Devotion to Duty is another that has been crying out for further and could go well over an extended 3m.

Sambelucky won with a little in hand at Catterick last month, accounting for Manoubi and Bob Will in the process. Although a 6lb rise appears lenient and he should be capable of confirming placings with those rivals, WINTER ALCHEMY gets the vote now upped in trip. The selection hinted he needed further than 2m2f when outpaced at Kelso last month and, unexposed at this distance, he looks open to improvement on what is only his second start in handicap company. Crackerjack Lad is worth a market check on his seasonal reappearance.

A race in which all but two of the field are taking to the racecourse for the first time and it could pay to side with CLOSE HOUSE, who ran a race full of promise in a Huntingdon 'bumper' on debut and can use the benefit of that experience to prevail here. Koultas King hails from a respected yard and would be of interest if the market spoke in his favour, as would Samstown.
