BELTANE sets the form standard, having finished in the first three on all of his starts to date, and the drop back to 6f could make the difference required having not appeared to quite see out his races over further. Monsieur Jumbo bounced back to form when third at Haydock on his latest start and he has to enter calculations along with Magnolia State, who may benefit from encountering softer conditions.

MOLINARI's hat-trick bid hit the rocks at Catterick last time, but Martin Todhunter's grey is fancied to get back on track now down in distance. Firewater is down to the same mark as winning this race last year and is expected to mount a bold bid. Course-and-distance winners Dr T J Eckleburg and Innse Gall are others to consider in a competitive event.

TEMPER TRAP wasn't beaten far into second at Hamilton when last sighted and, with winning form on similar ground last year, he looks the one to be on sporting first-time cheekpieces for a yard that has enjoyed a great season. Dual course scorer Chinese Spirit isn't without a squeak and might be a decent price on the back of some solid efforts in defeat, but the main danger is last-start Hamilton runner-up Caballero.

Havana Go has won on his last two visits to this track, including off a 2lb lower mark last time, but this softer ground isn't certain to suit, so PROPAGATION gets the vote. The former Charlie Hills inmate was disappointing on his debut for Dianne Sayer at Carlisle, but he has form on softer ground and could come into his own in this. Aone Ally is interesting on only his second start in handicaps, though he may need further in time, while Flying Moon improved for softer ground last time and could go well.

Plenty of these have claims but preference is for BIG LES, who won well over C&D nine days ago and he is 2lb well in today despite having to carry a 5lb penalty for that success. Kapono is an obvious threat to the selection having scored at Newcastle a couple of weeks ago, while Cold Stare and John Kirkup are others capable of going very well.

RETIREMENT BECKONS had excuses at Hamilton last month after encountering traffic problems and he gets the vote to build on that performance here. The six-year-old still remains on a workable mark and he should appreciate any ease in the ground. Listen Again has been hinting at improvement after a third-placed effort at Catterick and she is likely to figure again in this contest. Written Broadcast is another who merits respect as he is now fitted with first-time blinkers.

KATS BOB got within a neck of success at Hamilton two starts ago and was raised 2lb for that, but ran well to win in good style off his previous mark over this course and distance last time. That 2lb rise and his 6lb penalty for the recent win means he's 8lb higher in this, but it may not be enough to stop him while in this form. True Mason appears at his best with give underfoot and rates the main danger ahead of recent Hamilton third First Greyed.

Solid claims can be made for most of the runners in this field, with the in-form DE MAZZARO narrowly favoured to land the spoils. The son of So You Think has proved too strong for his rivals on three of his last six outings and the seven-year-old can add another to the tally. One Night In Milan is still unexposed on the Flat and he demands plenty of respect, while Ezanak is unbeaten over C&D and completes the shortlist.
