Having hit the frame on his last three outings, Falcon Nine must enter calculations. The six-year-old performed with credit in similar testing conditions on last year's card and he isn't taken lightly, but MOTAWAARED is slightly more appealing. Jim Goldie's inmate arrives on the back of a close-up second over a mile here and a return to 1m2f could prove just the ticket. Ghost Story is the pick of the remainder.

SEA MIRAGE posted his best effort to date when runner-up in a competitive nursery at Hamilton last month and makes obvious appeal reverting to a class 5 novice. An official rating of 74 suggests that a race of this nature is well within his compass and he's fancied to fend off likely improver Caturra Rock. A promising second on his debut at Yarmouth, Ed Dunlop's colt should make his presence felt, along with Muve On.

Lesley's Boy has posted a couple of creditable performances in defeat at Hamilton and his latest runner-up effort there suggests that his turn may not be far away, although he bumps into BIG APPLE JACK again. The Easterbys' gelding had Lesley's Boy back in fourth when getting off the mark and was then close up at Ripon on ground that was quicker than ideal. Long Shot could also have a say from the foot of the weights.

Defeated by just a head at Hamilton recently, compensation could be on the cards for TOPWARRIOR. The four-year-old is 2lb well-in and reverting to his only winning distance should aid his cause. Annie Edson Taylor lost little in defeat when thwarted in her bid to record a hat-trick at the same course and she may serve the most resistance to the selection, ahead of another well-treated rival in Parisiac.

EMPIRESTATEOFMIND has won two of his last three starts, finishing a neck second on the other occasion, and is hard to oppose without a penalty for his apprentice race success over 1m here last week. One Night Thunder scored over C&D on the same card and is an obvious threat to the selection, while Cisco Disco edges out Emery Down and Valentine Catcher to be best of the rest.

RORY'S GOLD bolted up over 1m2f at Newcastle and the ease of that success suggests that the four-year-old could be hard to beat once again, despite an 8lb rise. Blufferonthebus was a neck second over 7f here last time and could give the selection plenty to think about, while similar comments apply to Keats House. Recent Beverley winner Evelyn's Phoenix is also noted.

It is hard to oppose AIGHEAR, who went in by nine lengths over 1m7f here last week and Jim Goldie's mare only has to carry a 4lb penalty on this occasion. With that in mind, last year's winner tops the shortlist ahead of recent Hamilton scorers Off Spin and Wootton's Gal. The former would be the marginal pick of that pair, while Furhaan has plenty to find with the selection.
