Tommy's Oscar got the better of GEROMINO over hurdles at Doncaster last December, but the latter is fancied to come out on top this afternoon. Donald McCain's charge has been kept busy over fences this summer, notching up a four-timer in the process, and previous chasing experience could prove crucial here. However, the former has gone well fresh in the past and won't go down without a fight.

A few with chances, but preference is for MULBERRY HILL. Fergal O'Brien's six-year-old had been knocking on the door prior to a below-par effort at Worcester, but she's been given wind surgery since then and is fancied to take a step forward. Better Getalong was in fine fettle when last seen and demands the utmost respect on his return to action, along with Aire Valley Lad. Deluxe Range shouldn't be underestimated either.

SPRINGWELL BAY was mightily impressive when winning a bumper at Market Rasen last November and he's arguably the one to beat on his hurdling bow. A narrow winner between the flags, Whataboutyeh makes some appeal on his first start for Sam England, while Iorens is another to consider as she won her point-to-point and represents a stable which should have her ready to fire.

Cases can be made for several of these but it can pay to side with THE FERRY MASTER, who was last seen in the Scottish Grand National in April. Narrowly denied at Newcastle on his penultimate effort, Sandy Thomson's charge remains 1lb below his last winning mark and today could be the time to catch him. Wye Aye blew away the cobwebs at Perth last month and is sure to strip fitter here along with Small Present, who could be interesting on just his second attempt over fences.

A tentative vote goes to JOIE DE VIVRE, who arrives here in excellent form having scored on the level at Thirsk last month. The seven-year-old is well handicapped on some of her best form in this sphere and she is preferred to the likes of She's A Rocca and Runwiththetide, who bring strong form to the table. Completing the shortlist are Iolani, Largy Reach and Spot On Soph.

Check My Pulse merits respect but he remains a maiden over fences and may have to settle for a place. Wheelbahri won four on the bounce last season and could be a force to be reckoned with, although he hasn't been seen since April and race fitness may give TICO TIMES the edge. Outstayed close home over a furlong further at Sedgefield, he may get back to winning ways if held up a little longer here.

SAINT DAVY, a point-to-point winner at Quakerstown on his only start, was sold for 270,000 pounds last year and he can make a winning debut under Rules. He starts off at a sensible level here and may have too much class for the likes of the Market Rasen winner School Days Over. General Officer and Nairobi Girl are others to note.
