CHECKPOINT may not have won the most competitive of claimers when scoring last week, but he couldn't have done it any better, travelling smoothly before putting seven lengths between himself and the second horse. He was successfully claimed by Tony Coyle afterwards, and a change of scenery combined with the added confidence of getting his head in front, earns him the selection here. The 200,000gns Mutanaweb clearly deserves respect, and is potentially unexposed, but will have to show more, while Pravda Street got his head in front when last sighted in July and could be worth a market check.

It is tough to oppose SANDRA'S DIAMOND who got off the mark at Ayr recently, fulfilling the promise she had shown when runner-up on her first two starts, and she's clearly highly thought of, having contested a Group 3 last month. She looks sure to be sent off a warm order and the best alternative looks to be Captain Joe, who ran with some promise on his racecourse bow at York and is entitled to improve for that run with a first-time hood applied. Spinner Lane exhibited signs of greenness on her first start and can come on for the run.

KALAHARI KINGDOM looked to be on the verge of mounting a decent challenge at Redcar when last sighted, travelling well in behind before coming under pressure and hanging left to finish sixth. Despite that, it looks better to stick with him in this company with the benefit of another run under his belt. Bint Malyana is an interesting newcomer, with a 55,000 euro price tag, and represents a trainer that has won with four of his seven runners here in the past five years. Ronya loved the easier surface last time round and can be on the premises again.

WESTERN PRIZE was all the rage in the betting when last seen going over hurdles at Exeter last week, but as was the case the time before, he found one too good. He still sets the standard on his 14th in the Cesarewitch last year when with Ralph Beckett, and can get back to winning ways in this grade. Mohawk Ridge was denied by a neck over track and trip last week and often goes well here, while Sherman McCoy has been knocking on the door and completes the shortlist.

Confessional arrives boasting sound claims if he's able to reproduce his Haydock form of early September but preference is for AETNA. An impressive soft ground maiden winner at Doncaster on her debut in March, the lightly-raced filly is up 3lb for finishing half-a-length third at Ayr last month and another chance is given. Of the others, Judge 'n Jury and Doctor Parkes are entitled to have their say on proceedings if the pair can rediscover their earlier-season form, while it would come as no surprise to see El Viento register a bold performance at generous odds.

JUST PAUL represents a model of consistency and is five wins from nine starts for Philip Kirby. The improving son of Clodovil boasts wins on ground varying from good to soft to good to firm, so the versatile three-year-old is expected to continue on an upward curve getting weight for age against his elders. C&D-winning form also stands him in good stead, but keep a close eye on the relatively unexposed Dawn Calling, who represents the shrewd Mark Johnston yard, and Ayr winner Llewellyn.

GUNG HO looks the answer to this handicap based on a respectable UK debut last month. The son of Marju almost upset the odds when two-lengths third at 18-1 over a similar trip last time and that first run since March is expected to have brought him forward. Operateur is consistent and has won here in the past, but Halfwaytocootehill is feared most for Ollie Pears as he gets in under bottom weight with improvement anticipated. Pleasing performances at Beverley and Southwell the last twice bring him into the reckoning here.

LIKE CLOCKWORK can build on his latest Brighton second in the finale. A good runner-up over 1m4f off this mark of 52 on that occasion, the son of Rail Link should only improve for the step up in distance and this looks a good opportunity. Vittachi is a threat to all based on his C&D-winning form and he's noted along with Hurricane John, who appears to have turned the corner following good performances at Southwell and Wolverhampton, including success at the latter.
