DOLOS was last seen finishing third in a Listed event over hurdles at Auteuil in April, after which he joined Paul Nicholls, and that experience could prove to be vital this afternoon. That said, Rainbow Dreamer has plenty of experience from the level, where he was a useful performer for these connections. If he can translate his Flat form to hurdling then he can give the selection plenty to think about. Cliffs Of Dover has proven himself over hurdles but his penalty will make life hard for him today.

ARPEGE D'ALENE was unfortunate to bump into the useful Junction Fourteen on his chasing debut in a Grade 2 at Wincanton last November and he was clearly not right when pulled-up on his only other start over fences. Since then he has won a Listed handicap hurdle here in February and he then finished a close second in the Pertemps Final at the Cheltenham Festival. The rest are relatively closely matched on hurdles form but Potters Corner and Vieux Lille would appear to be the pick of them.

Kapstadt clearly arrives here in great form following his second in the Prelude Hurdle at Market Rasen and an easy win at Sedgefield three days later. That said, this is a better contest and he may struggle to give weight to a couple of useful five-year-olds in Barman and WISHFULL DREAMING. The selection remains thoroughly unexposed and he has hinted on more than one occasion that he could turn out to be significantly better than his rating of 123. Barman has fitness on his side and a 3lb rise for his latest win is more than fair.

IRISH CAVALIER faced some stiff tasks last season, including when fifth in the Gold Cup, but he ended his campaign with an impressive display in a handicap chase at the Punchestown Festival. A 7lb rise for that win is more than fair and he is a seven-year-old still entitled to improve with another year on his back. Junction Fourteen disappointed in the Galway Plate last time but he should find this more suitable. Art Mauresque, Double Shuffle and Voix D'eau are others who merit respect, though Sire De Grugy looks to be vulnerable from his current mark.

NO COMMENT gained experience over hurdles when runner-up to a decent sort in The Dutchman at Wetherby and then struck in a bumper at the Punchestown Festival. The step up in distance here will no doubt bring about improvement from the son of Kayf Tara and he shades the vote ahead of Paul Nicholls' duo El Bandit and Bagad Bihoue, both of whom merit this step up in class after impressing on their recent hurdles starts. Coo Star Sivola is entitled to improve, having finished a good third in the Fred Winter, as is Two Taffs, who is a novice until the end of the month having won a handicap hurdle at Ayr's Scottish Grand National meeting.

COURT BY SURPRISE bumped into a well handicapped horse in Danimix in this contest 12 months ago. Emma Lavelle's charge has a good record when fresh and looks a solid option off an 8lb lower mark. Rocky Creek showed signs of life at Sandown on his final start in a Grade 2 and is very well treated if returning to his best form, while Double Ross went well for a long way in the Grand National before his saddle slipped and is another who appears on a feasible mark.

COASTAL TIEP ran twice on the same day when winning his point-to-point at Littlewindsor, having been brought down in the first race on that card. A 60,000-euro purchase, he comes from the family of decent staying chaser Pomme Tiepy and can get his career off to a flying start for Paul Nicholls. The main threat could come from Russian Service, a half-sister to the ill-fated The Govaness, who won a Listed bumper at Cheltenham, while Diamond Benny is related to former Willie Mullins chaser Our Ben and is also respected on debut.

The second division of the bumper contains another fairly well-touted Paul Nicholls contender in CLO SACRE, who was just touched off in his point-to-point at Berkeley and is related to a couple of decent National Hunt types. Quiz Master comes from a staying family which includes the former Jonjo O'Neill-trained Radiation and is one of the first progeny of Ask to make their Rules debut, while Twist On Ginge can build on the experience gained last season and will appreciate better ground.
