Top novice hurdler Special Rate has been off the track for 22 months and may need the run on his debut over fences. Lustral Du Seuil has put in a couple of decent efforts in similar contests and should be thereabouts but preference is for VERY OPTIMISTIC, second last time in a novice chase and likely to prove too good here.

Drumbeater ran up a hat-trick earlier but may have too much weight now while Exeter winner Keepers Mead could struggle with another 7lb. French chasing winner Lusaka De Pembo could go well on his UK debut but might find one too good in THREE LIONS, an easy 3m winner at Uttoxeter. He's up 8lb but should be able to follow up.

3

13:00 Chepstow (Class C) (5YO plus)

At The Races Red Button Betting Handicap Chase

Hat-trick-seeking Soeur Fontenail and Wetherby winner Edmo Yewkay have plenty of weight and are up in class while Kelrev and Island Faith are other recent winners high in the handicap. ALMOST BROKE, fit from a recent run over timber, is up 6lb for a neck win at Perth but idled in front then and looks capable of scoring here.

Turko and Twist Magic have done enough to suggest they can take a hand in the finish but Fair Along, who recorded a four-timer earlier in the year, looks the one to beat. However, it's worth taking a chance on GARDASEE, untested when winning his last two starts and seemingly open to plenty of further improvement.

6

14:40 Chepstow (Class A) (5YO plus)

Coral Welsh National Handicap Chase (Grade 3)

3m 5f 110y

This test of stamina is likely to severely examine the credentials of the likes of Cornish Rebel, One Knight and World Wide Web but L'Aventure seemingly stays for ever. However, MCKELVEY looked full of running when unshipping his rider four out over 3m1f at Wetherby this month and could bounce back to take this.

7

15:15 Chepstow (Class E) (4YO plus)

Pontins Bluecoat Flyer Novices' Hurdle

2m 4f

Winner £3,920 - 15 ran

This looks much like a match between Killaghy Castle and BE BE KING, winners over timber last time out but both destined to go chasing. The former, who scored at Folkestone, is likely to make the switch soon but the selection, a Huntingdon winner, has a few more runs over timber to come and should pick up plenty of prize money.

8

15:50 Chepstow (Class H) (4YO to 6YO)

Pontins Captain Crocodile Standard Open NH Flat Race

2m 110y

Winner £2,343 - 11 ran

Goscar Rock, a descendent of L'Escargot, cost 45,000 euros as a 3yo and could go well on his debut while Baron Romeo followed up a point-to-point success with a battling bumper win at Uttoxeter. But he was all out that day and a better bet might be HOT 'N' HOLY, who ran on to take second at Hereford and can go one better today.
