Strong market support for Phillip Hobbs' returning 7yo Algenon would clearly be of interest but his lengthy absence has to be a worry for anyone planning on backing him. With that in mind, Colin Tizzard's LEADING AUTHORITY is the confident selection. He went well in heavy ground at Folkestone last month and a drop in trip could prove ideal. Monsieur Villez may run into the money on his UK debut.

Phareight Dei has returned to action in the form of his life but appears fairly exposed and remains a maiden having squandered numerous chances to get off the mark in Ireland over the past couple of seasons. Radnor Lad was a surprise winner at Hereford last week and will find this tough under a penalty, so JAM PACKED earns the vote. He's shaped well in both codes this autumn and won't mind today's stamina-testing conditions.

FROSTY JAK is in great shape at present and he's taken to defy a 6lb rise in the ratings and compete an impressive four-timer. The form of his seven-length success at Chepstow last month looks particularly strong and he obviously relishes a true test of stamina. Young Lorcan, Zimbabwe and Chopneyev are also currently in good form and must be on the short-list.

Phillip Hobbs' highly-regarded DREAM ALLIANCE made an impressive start to his chasing career with an eight-length victory over Dream Falcon here last month and a similar effort should suffice this afternoon. The slight step up in trip is no cause for concern and it would be no surprise to see him line up for the Royal & SunAlliance Chase at Cheltenham come March with further progress likely. Miko De Beauchene and Blue Splash can battle it out behind.

Coustou has problems with consistency and remains a maiden over timber, while Orion Express has never gone close in ground worse than good to soft. These question marks appear to leave the door wide open for Nick Williams' OLIMPO under his featherweight. He unseated when hot favourite in a novice event at Wincanton on his latest outing, but had previously shown enough promise to suggest he can break his hurdling duck in this company.

It remains to be seen what Keswick is capable of over fences having tipped up on his chasing bow here last month and it should pay to stick with classy hurdler MISTER QUASIMODO as he bids to make it third time lucky over the bigger obstacles. He bumped into a decent prospect over 3m here last time but drops in trip and looks the one they have to beat in this contest. Magot De Grugy has been well beaten over fences and needs to rekindle his old hurdling form if he's to play a leading role today.

Carl Llewellyn has a decent record in this type of race this term and it would be no surprise to see R'CAM score this afternoon having found only one too good over 2m in a bumper at Ascot on his first public appearance. Sir Oscar is another entitled to improve with racecourse experience under his belt, while Colin Tizzard's newcomer Beau Regard is one to note in the betting.
