In a wide-open contest the marginal preference is for ESPALION, who was an easy seven-length winner at Uttoxeter last time. The six-year-old remains open to improvement and even an 8lb rise for that victory may not be enough to stop him from taking this contest as well. Fubar has been knocking hard on the door of late and he should go well once again, while How's The Cricket and Feuille De Chene are others to note.

SHINOBI created a big impression when making a winning debut over hurdles at Uttoxeter last month and Kim Bailey's gelding is hard to oppose today, despite having to carry a 7lb penalty. Northern Poet made the frame when last seen at Huntingdon and the former bumper winner should not be underestimated in this company. Runswick Bay is another with claims, while the rest look to be up against it.

GA LAW accounted for a useful pair of rivals in a novice chase at Fontwell last month and Jamie Snowden's four-year-old has to be respected on his handicap debut today, off what appears to be a workable mark. Solar Impulse is an obvious threat given that he is just 3lb higher than when winning at Southwell two starts ago. Celtic Joy has been off the track for a while now but he is more than capable of going well in a race of this nature.

MISSTREE SONG was clear when falling at the last at Newton Abbot last month and could claim compensation here for Dan Skelton. The six-year-old wandered on approach a couple of times prior to that fall and although she needs to be a bit straighter this time, it is likely that the Skeltons will have her well schooled. Recent Warwick winner Jungle Prose relishes a sound surface and could enjoy the test of stamina presented by this track, while Waterlefe Getaway is better than what she showed at Southwell 35 days ago.

BOSSINEY BAY has been in good form lately at Perth, finishing in the places the last twice, and is interesting back at the scene of her most recent success for Oliver Greenall. That win came in maiden company in May 2019, but the five-year-old is on a fair mark of 87 and is suited by a sound terrain. Penalised runner Eyeofthescorpion (also engaged to run at Sedgefield on Wednesday) is unexposed and got off the mark in cosy fashion at Huntington eight days ago, while Isosceles is also taken seriously after a wind operation.

Mystic Court and Alfie's Angel both outran huge odds when finding just one too good in their respective outings at Newton Abbot last month and need to prove capable of repeating those exertions. Rowley Park has some ability but returns from a 518-day absence for Linda Blackford, and the most reliable option in this race might be GLOBAL WONDER. Third at Uttoxeter last month, Suzi Best's charge should have come on for that first run in 205 days and will probably be delivered late by Daryl Jacob.

MONKEY PUZZLE thrived following wind surgery when a winner at Fontwell in August and could relish the quick forecast conditions here as he looks to follow up off a 3lb higher mark. Stop The World got on the scoresheet at Cartmel in the summer but is one who may require the ground a little slower to be at his best, while El Presente has done well in a couple of Market Rasen staying chases this season and is likely to be in the prize money.

LITTLE AWKWARD kept on nicely to take a Fontwell bumper by four lengths in August and there could be more to come from Oliver Sherwood's promising four-year-old under a penalty here. Glory And Honour made all and passed the winning post in first on his sole point-to-point appearance, only to be later disqualified, and is interesting on his Rules debut for Tom Lacey. Wait For The Lord finished second to the talented Socialist Agenda on her penultimate outing and had valid excuses when disappointing at Southwell last time.
