OSCAR DAVY seemed the have the race in safe keeping before falling on his hurdling debut at Carlisle last month and compensation awaits Philip Hobbs' charge sooner rather than later. Dual point-to-point winner Curtain Razer is a half-brother to the classy but ill-fated Hear The Echo and looks sure to make his mark under Rules having joined Paul Nicholls. Gullinbursti was progressive in bumpers and looks another nice prospect as he takes to timber for the first time.

Paul Nicholls has his string in such tremendous heart that it's hard not to be drawn to RUBEN COTTER. The five-year-old son of Beneficial justified favouritism in a 14-runner point-to-point at Dungarvan back in February and seems certain to be well schooled for his introduction to hurdling. Fellow NH newcomer Highland Lodge was one from one between the flags and is a seriously respected rival, while Great Gusto wasn't disgraced in a couple of bumpers last term and shouldn't be ignored.

David Pipe has a strong hand with veteran Lough Derg, well-regarded Or Noir De Somoza and, perhaps most interestingly, the returning Quinte Du Chatelet. Strong market support for the latter would have to be taken into account but one that appeals more is HILDISVINI, who won two novice events towards the end of last season and could have plenty more to offer over staying distances this term. The Knoxs is another handicap debutant not to be taken lightly.

Colin Tizzard has always held GOLDEN CHIEFTAIN in high regard and he looked a chaser in the making from day one, despite the fact he proved good enough to win three times over the smaller obstacles. Ease underfoot seems to be a necessity so providing it doesn't dry out too much, he could make his chasing debut a winning one. Five Star Wilsham won at Stratford last month but now has a weight penalty to contend with, leaving Sangfroid as the main threat to the selection.

2009 Fred Winter runner-up SKI SUNDAY ran another big race at this year's Cheltenham Festival when only beaten four lengths in the Vincent O'Brien Country Hurdle, and Tim Vaughan's charge is taken to make a winning debut over fences today. However, he is expected to be given plenty to think about by Current Event, a promising novice hurdler last term and expected to appreciate the switch to larger obstacles. Easter Meteor, another chasing debutant, rates best of the remainder.

Back Bob Back is entitled to have learnt from his chasing bow in March and this shorter trip should suit, while it would be no surprise to see Tastevin leave his hurdles form behind now tried over fences and in handicap company for the first time. Knapp Bridge Boy has been dropped 1lb for a promising second over shorter latest but the vote goes to SAWPIT SURPREME, who won off a 5lb lower mark in a higher grade earlier in the year and there could be plenty more to come this season.

SWINCOMBE FLAME signed off last term by winning a Listed bumper at Sandown, hinting that she'd improve when upped to this longer trip. Nick Williams' charge is out of a 3m hurdles winner and is worth a market check on his seasonal and hurdles bow. The main danger looks to be Dream Function, who is race-fit having scored in style over this trip at Newton Abbot in September. With Jeremy Scott's string in red-hot form at present, last-time-out Chepstow scorer Golden Gael must also be high on the shortlist.
