GOLD PRESENT showed plenty of promise in an Ascot bumper when a good second to stablemate Sugar Baron, who emphatically boosted the form by running out an impressive winner of a hurdle race at Newbury. Not only did Nicky Henderson's charge shape as though he was in need of the experience first time out, but he also has the size to suggest that he will be much better suited to jumping and he is one to keep on side on his hurdling bow. Wizards Bridge won a maiden hurdle at Fontwell in November but has a penalty to carry and bigger threats may be Wait A Second, who improved markedly on his bumper debut when runner-up at Chepstow, and French recruit Qualando, who was touched off on his UK bow here.

Rosa Imperialis ran out an impressive winner over an extended 2m6f at Fontwell on Boxing Day, but stamina looks her strong point so the drop in trip is a negative, as is a 10lb hike in the weights. Molly's A Diva and Flementime may also want further, while Bull And Bush has strong claims on the form book but hasn't raced for 10 months, so preference is for MOLO. The bumper and maiden hurdle winner just found her stamina stretched when fading into third over 2m5f at Warwick and representing the in-form David Pipe, she looks well treated on her handicap bow off an opening mark of 114.

David Pipe continues to fire in the winners and can add to his tally courtesy of TWENTYTWO'S TAKEN, who paid the price for doing too much early on when runner-up at Plumpton. She was a good bumper performer, though, before winning her maiden hurdle well and has the ability to successfully shoulder a winner's penalty. If she fails to settle better, Hannah's Princess will be ready to pounce following three fine efforts in defeat since switching to hurdles. Knocklayde Express found 2m6f too far when bidding to following up her Sedgefield success at Wincanton and should be seen in a much better light now back down in distance.

Xaarcet continues to tumble down the ratings and could be ready to capitalise having run his best race for some time when fifth at Taunton last month. Preference, however, is for ONE COOL BOY, who found a couple too good at Leicester when bidding to defy a 7lb rise for his Ludlow win, but the winner has since scored another two times and the heavy ground may not have been to the liking of the Tracey Watkins-trained gelding that day. Just Spot and Moving Waves are also edging back down to feasible marks and should not be ruled out.

QALINAS has improved steadily with each start since returning from a lengthy absence. His most recent effort in runner-up spot at Chepstow from a 5lb lower mark suggested his winning turn might be due. Dawson City is clearly a big danger, though, as he has landed back-to-back victories since moving into handicap company and a 9lb rise might not curtail his potential improvement. Todd shaped as if a step up in trip would suit when staying on over 2m5f at Plumpton, and the handicap debutant Urban Storm deserves a market check too.

Things haven't gone to plan for SALMANAZAR the last twice but his third behind Saphir Du Rheu at this track in December is eyecatching and perhaps he deserves another try. Minellahalfcentury might prove tough to stop if his latest fall didn't damage his confidence because he thrashed Ballyculla at Chepstow two starts back and could have plenty more improvement to come. Big Society rarely runs a bad race, and Top Wood arrives fresh from a promising run over hurdles at Warwick.

Castarnie and Newton Thistle both arrive fresh from success and make plenty of appeal at the foot of the weights, but the assessor has stepped in with punitive rises for both and it remains to be seen whether they can be competitive in hotter company. MOORLANDS MIST might be a more solid option as he has been dropped 3lb after finishing fourth in a stronger 0-135 handicap at Ludlow and can find improvement with blinkers added to a tongue-tie. The consistent Hollow Blue Sky has his sights lowered, and Tolkeins Tango cannot be discounted either.
