DON JUAN DU GOUET bolted up by 10 lengths over an extended 2m at Stratford last time and could take plenty of beating now turned out under a penalty. The main danger may be Chance It, who kept on well to score over 2m1f here last time out and is expected to remain competitive now stepped up in trip. Foxy Act and Thomas Blossom are two consistent types who are capable of playing supporting roles.

EDEN DU HOUX won between the flags before winning two bumpers under Rules last season. The latest of them, in Listed company at Ascot in December, highlighted him as one to keep a close eye on going forward. Hang In There makes some appeal on his Fairyhouse second for former connections in April, though he needs to bounce back from unseating his rider at the first here 12 days ago. Gameface and Easyrun De Vassy are both having their first starts following wind surgery so are worth market checks.

THEGOAHEADMAN stayed on well in the closing stages when striking over the extended 2m5f at Downpatrick in May and is expected to overcome a 13lb rise and follow up to land a double. Putting Green had a recent spin on the Flat to blow away the cobwebs and is on a hurdles hat-trick after his exploits at Perth over the summer. Others for the shortlist are the returning Espalion and Merry Milan, who sports first-time cheekpieces.

REIKERS ISLAND's form tailed off last season after a good start to his campaign, was last seen when pulling up in an Aintree handicap, but he represents a stable in amongst the winners recently and he could have more to offer over fences. Another Stowaway could take a step forward on his first outing since wind surgery, while similar comments apply to Midnight Chill, who was a consistent performer in his novice season.

SOUTHFIELD STONE makes plenty of appeal as he begins his career over fences having won a Grade 2 novice hurdle at Kempton in February. He subsequently disappointed at Aintree, when possibly feeling the effects of a long season, but he has the scope to take a step forward in this sphere. The Mighty Don enjoyed a good season against the best staying hurdlers, finishing fourth in the JLT Hurdle at Ascot, and he warrants respect along with Moonlighter, who appeared a long-term project in novice hurdles last season and has the potential to do very well now chasing.

WRITE IT DOWN showed plenty of improvement in first-time cheekpieces and a tongue-tie when winning at Warwick last month and he looked to have plenty still in the tank when crossing the line. The second and third from that contest have both run well subsequently and that gives plenty of hope Jonjo O'Neill's five-year-old could be well treated off a 5lb higher mark. First Figaro was only beaten a neck at Market Rasen last month and is likely to be a danger off just 1lb higher. Fontwell regular Brown Bear picked up a silver medal off this figure earlier this month and is respected, while course-and-distance winner Triple Chief can't be ignored.

Nigel Twiston-Davies has come out of the blocks strong this autumn and his VULCAN BOMBER, whose dam is a winner over hurdles, could be the answer in this contest. Irish raider The Rebel Outlaw has to be taken seriously representing Jessica Harrington, while it may also pay to take a look at Alan King's Karastani, who cost 42,000 pounds and is a half-sister to five jumps winners.
