FOR CARMEL remains a maiden under Rules but his recent consistent performances suggest that the eight-year-old can win a race of this nature. Motueka was rather disappointing last time out but he is a player based on his previous form, while Mountain Of Mourne ran very well to finish second at Chepstow recently. Others to note are Midnight Request, Robert's Star and Sartorial Elegance.

WAIHEKE and Drops Of Jupitor have met a couple of times at this track already and they bring the best form to the table today. The former won here in November but was a beaten favourite behind Drops Of Jupitor a month later. That latter run was clearly not her true running and she gets the nod to bounce back today. Dame du Soir won two 1m4f bumpers in France last year and is worth a look in the market today.

MOLINEAUX ran well in a few handicaps prior to his victory in a novice hurdle at Wincanton earlier in the month and he is the one to beat based on that evidence. Dentley De Mee is another with solid form claims and he will find this a lot easier than the Lanzarote Hurdle, in which he finished eighth in last time out. Reikers Island was purchased for 60,000 pounds having won an Irish point-to-point in December and is respected.

POLLY'S PURSUIT has yet to hit the heights of her useful half-sister Polly Peacham, but the form of her Doncaster third to Woolstone One was franked when that rival followed up in Listed company at Warwick and a repeat of that showing should be enough here. Kalahari Queen won well at Lingfield before being held by a well-handicapped rival at Catterick and is sure to be a danger to the selection here, while Bee Crossing has hit the frame the last twice and holds solid claims. Lamanver Odyssey was a likeable winner of a competitive contest earlier in the season and has the quality to take this, but her latest efforts leave questions to be answered now.

COO STAR SIVOLA was sent off a well-supported favourite on Festival Trials Day for the 2m5f handicap when finishing a well-held fourth behind runaway winner Frodon. However, there should be a win in the locker off his current mark of 135 having scored off a similar figure over hurdles and he can get off the mark over fences on this occasion. Anthony Honeyball is in fine form and he saddles Pure Vision, who is the choice of Barry Geraghty over the other JP McManus candidate, Kimberlite Candy, while Surtee Du Berlais is yet to put it all together over fences but claimed a Listed contest off a mark 13lb higher when jumping hurdles last season.

Yanmare knows his way around here, a C&D winner two starts back, and must be respected off what is still a good mark. Emperor's Choice fell in the Welsh Grand National latest but has won that contest before and also has a victory in the West Wales National to his name. He should go well if that latest mishap hasn't left its mark, but the verdict is for THOMAS PATRICK, who cannot boast the experience of his rivals but does appeal as the unexposed quantity in the race and won well on his chase bow at Chepstow in the mud earlier this month. A course scorer over timber, he could be well treated off a mark of 131 and supporters will be pleased to see Richard Johnson keep the ride.

It was hard not to be impressed with the manner of SUMMIT LIKE HERBIE's C&D triumph on debut and he can go in again despite having to shoulder a penalty for that victory. Nigel Twiston-Davies' charge looked an above-average type and is open to any amount of improvement. Fontsanta scored at Fontwell on his debut and beat a horse that had previously finished third in a warm Ascot bumper, so he looks the main danger and joins point-to-point winner Darling Alko and newcomer Southfield Stone on the shortlist.
