All four of the recent winners are forced to shoulder a 6lb penalty but ELSPETH'S BOY relished the step up to this trip on quick ground here last week and is taken to follow up. Philip Kirby's recruit needed every yard that day and, if able to settle better through the early part of the race, he can put back-to-back wins together. Call Of Duty represents the in-form Dianne Sayer and drops back in distance after scoring over 1m4f here last month, while St Ignatius and King Zeal also arrive in good heart.

For all Newstead Abbey posted a very encouraging effort on his debut in a strong York maiden last month, this looks a competitive event and he might be worth taking on. Brian Meehan's filly FANTACISE is an interesting contender under Paul Hanagan and the booking suggests connections are confident of a big run. The form of her Windsor maiden third is working out well and this step up in trip on better ground is expected to bring about some improvement. Of the newcomers, Godolphin's 110,000gns colt Requested is one to keep a close eye on.

With both Dha Chara and Sound Affects having failed to set the world alight thus far, this looks set to go to a newcomer and MAYAASEM makes plenty of appeal. Charlie Hills' inmate made 90,000gns at Tattersalls in October and his breeding suggests he shouldn't have any problem over the minimum trip. The Jeremy Noseda-trained Ian's Dream is another to take seriously at the first time of asking, while Richard Hannon's Dansili Dual completes the shortlist.

Amour Propre is the highest rated with an official mark of 112 but like his stablemate Markab has shown recently, he might come on appreciably for his reappearance run, so a race-fit SPIRIT QUARTZ is preferred. Robert Cowell's Italian recruit has been knocking on the door since making his UK debut behind Fratellino at Lingfield in March and, having impressed behind two Group 1 sprinters here in the Temple Stakes last weekend, this could be his chance to strike. Ed McMahon's Noble Storm is the sole runner boasting winning C&D form and is respected with underfoot conditions in his favour.

TAWAASUL sets the form standard based on her 7f Newbury fourth last season and although she performed slightly below that level when turned over when odds-on at Lingfield last month, she should have blown away the cobwebs with that outing and is expected to be off the mark before long. Richard Hannon's Sir Lexington and the Robert Mills-trained Standing Strong, a fair third over 7f at Lingfield last time, are others high on the shortlist.

Veloce has the ability to go close when his mind is fully focussed on the job but he's recently been fitted with a visor and it might be best to look for a safer alternative and side with HALLSTATT, who finished ahead of the first-named when runner-up at Nottingham latest. Even though he pulled five lengths clear of the rest of the field and went down by less than a length at the line, the selection is allowed to race off an unchanged rating and looks handicapped to strike now dropped in trip. Chookie Hamilton is usually thereabouts and is respected with Paul Hanagan booked for the Ian Semple team.
