JUST JOELLIOTT improved plenty for the step up to 3m at Ludlow just over a fortnight ago and should relish the similar test he is faced with here having only gone up 3lb. Kid Kalanisi has finally got his act together having won his last two starts, including over hurdles last time at Plumpton, so is respected once again, while Bandon Roc is a player if handling the step up in distance having won well at Taunton on Sunday and, most importantly, escapes a penalty.

Go West Young Man possesses a fair amount of ability but unfortunately is better known for his quirks and will need to be produced at the last possible moment. Preference is for PETITE POWER, who should arguably have won on his chasing debut at Lingfield but should be able to cope with the 10lb rise due to winning over timber at Bangor the week before. The Jugopolist gained a popular success here two starts ago and comes here off a light weight which should suit, while Shanroe Santos could be interesting with first-time cheekpieces.

MESSIRE DES OBEAUX has to give 8lb to his five rivals but should be able to maintain his unbeaten record this season. A handicap win at Bangor in effortless style was followed up with a Grade 2 success in the Winter Novices Hurdle at Sandown before victory at the highest level in the Challow Hurdle at Newbury. The form of that race has since worked out with the third Ami Desbois winning comfortably in a handicap at Wetherby on Saturday and this looks an ideal step before taking in the Neptune at the Cheltenham Festival. The main danger could well be Bags Groove, who misses the Betfair Hurdle in favour of this and has first-time cheekpieces to aid his concentration, while Benatar and Keeper Hill both look to have potential and are open to plenty of improvement.

Allee Bleue was an impressive winner at Leicester last week but the very heavy ground on that occasion lead to that race falling apart and he is probably flattered by the winning margin. That said, he is officially 3lb well-in despite his 7lb penalty based on his new mark of 135. KALONDRA was last seen finishing fifth in a decent renewal of the Lanzarote at Kempton last month and he would appear to be a danger to all from the same same mark. Protek Des Flos is undoubtedly well handicapped based on the pick of his form but he does need to bounce back from a poor run over fences when last seen back in November. Gibralfaro should run his usual solid race but is likely to find one or two of these are better handicapped.

The handicapper is struggling to get a hold of Johns Luck because his two recent victories have been by a very narrow margin and a 3lb rise for his latest success doesn't appear to be overly harsh. That said, this is a more competitive race than those he has been winning and preference is for RUNNING WOLF. The six-year-old was only beaten by a short head at Leicester a couple of weeks ago and a 2lb rise in the ratings is unlikely to stop him from going very well once again. Others to note are Bertenbar and Easter In Paris.

Alan King is 4-18 in bumper events at this venue in the last five seasons and perhaps PASSING CALL can finally get off the mark after two respectable efforts. The four-year-old receives a nice weight-for-age allowance and should be suited by going back up to 2m. It takes a useful type to defy a penalty in such contests and Warren Greatrex's Petticoat Tails will have to be exactly that to land this conceding so much weight to the selection, while Lerichi Belle wears a hood on her debut and Molly The Dolly might be one to note after costing 82,000 pounds at the sales 11 months ago following a cosy win between the flags.

Majestic Moll shaped well enough on her racecourse debut at Doncaster, though she is likely to need further in time and is in danger of being outpaced once more. Skewiff is entered in a valuable Newbury sales bumper next month so must have been showing Evan Williams something at home, while Glanvilles Guest may struggle with a penalty to carry once more. MARY ELEANOR is related to plenty of bumper winners and the booking of Richard Johnson suggests that she will know her job in this sphere before moving onto better things.
