HOPE POINT sets the form standard based on her Newton Abbot third over this trip in August. Mark Usher's filly made her move all too late that day but made up some late ground on the leading pair and shaped as if she'd come on appreciably with that experience under the belt. The Absent Mare has steadily improved with each run to date and, along with Marie Des Anges, who is related to hurdles winners, completes the shortlist.

Balzaccio returned to the winner's enclosure in a beginners' chase at Fontwell earlier in the month and needs to prove he can now build upon that effort, as he often struggled to follow one good run with another over fences last term. Preference is for MULDOON'S PICNIC, who posted a career best effort when fifth in Grade 1 company at Aintree last term and now goes chasing. Recent Cheltenham second Icy Colt is also considered.

FOLK TUNE has benefitted from the drop into selling grade when picking up races at Uttoxeter and Hexham the last twice, both around this trip, and looks the most likely winner if putting his best foot forward. Pobs Trophy and Catawollow both clashed in a Fakenham handicap recently, with the latter getting the better of the battle. However, at the revised terms, the former may be capable of reversing the placings here.

The Grey One registered yet another second at Worcester last time and deserves to win again soon. Milton Bradley's charge has been raised 3lb for his troubles but should be right there at the finish. Nevertheless, it might be worth siding with ROC DE GUYE, who is entitled to strip fitter for his recent comeback run at Uttoxeter and has winning 2m1f form to his name. Guns Of Love also blew away the cobwebs recently and can go well.

Valley Lad won nicely on debut in a Ffos Las bumper last season and merits respect now tackling timber for the first time. However, it might be worth siding with the proven hurdles experience of FINTAN. Like Theredballoon, he opened his account in a course bumper on debut and has since gone on to score over hurdles when last sighted. He is preferred over the last-named on the basis of his hurdles victory coming this term.

Absolute Shambles completed a hat-trick when scoring here in August but his latest effort at Fontwell suggests the handicapper may now be in control and preference is for FRESHER FISHING, whose 4lb rise for his recent Exeter success is counteracted by this step up in trip. Recent C&D scorer Iris's Flyer and Dont Tell Sailor, who reverts back to hurdles after his recent chase success, look handicapped to finish on the premises.

LOOSE CHIPS rattled the crossbar in a maiden point back in April but could put that experience to good use now having his first start under Rules, having changed hands in May. Oliver Sherwood's Greenlaw, related to several hurdles winners, is feared most and worth a market check on his racecourse debut. Turbo Du Ranch, winner of a Newbury bumper in March, is another to consider on his seasonal bow.
