BUFFALO RIVER was turned over at very short odds over C&D at the end of last month, but his Doncaster form prior to that has taken some significant boosts since. The winner of that contest, Royal Marine, took a Group 1 at Longchamp on Sunday, while the second, Turgenev, has won his next two starts and looked potential Group class, so it would be disappointing were the selection not able to get off the mark here. Yimkin makes some appeal on her debut being a daughter of Kingman out of a dam who is a half-sister to Group 1 winner Olden Times, while Ajrar can prove more competitive now dropped in class.

SOVEREIGN GRANT has shown good promise on both his starts to date, looking a work in progress, and that experience gained so far can be put to good use against a whole host of newcomers. Owen Burrows has had an excellent couple of weeks and Amjaady makes a fair amount of appeal with a US pedigree having cost $400,000 at the Keeneland Yearling sale. Others to consider include Darwin Dream and Red Romance.

CASPAR THE CUB has gone close to winning on a couple of occasions in his career and this looks the perfect opportunity for the son of Casamento to finally get off the mark with the cheekpieces kept on. Silver Crescent has the blinkers reapplied after a couple of disappointing efforts and they could spark a return to form, while Don't Look Down has potential for improvement on just his fourth start.

LA MAQUINA is winless from five career starts but will be winning a handicap of this nature sooner rather than later and it is interesting that William Buick has been booked for the ride. First-time cheekpieces may eke out some more improvement in this Dutch Art gelding and he can get the better of Redgrave, a winner over C&D two starts back, and Mesquite, who is tried in first-time blinkers.

DRAGON MOUNTAIN has the bit between his teeth at present and can round off a course hat-trick for Hugo Palmer and Josephine Gordon. Only 4lb higher than when scoring over 10 furlongs here just over a fortnight ago, the gutsy C&D winner is difficult to get away from. Floria Tosca is another who arrives in good nick and must be respected under a talented 3lb claimer, while Thunder Speed is also noted.

CENOTAPH was described as being "a stakes horse in the making" by Jeremy Noseda after his Chelmsford success six weeks ago and could claim a fourth successive victory on an artificial surface here under William Buick. The classy six-year-old could be one to watch in Meydan over the winter, and can account for Mazzini, who had previously been frustrating to follow but has now won two of his last three. Lansky has had a wind operation ahead of his stable bow for Robert Cowell and warrants a market check for his powerful connections.

CHICA DE LA NOCHE has shaped like her turn might be near the last twice and could claim an overdue success here for Simon Dow. Well backed here two weeks ago when dead-heating for second, the four-year-old is clearly on a decent mark and has a nice draw here in stall two. Babyfact ran well at Wolverhampton when second from a bad draw five days ago, while It's A Wish needs a market check on stable debut for Mick Channon after an absence.

ELECTOR looked a little gassy on his first run since a wind operation/break when third at Kempton last time and should appreciate this drop in distance with that effort under his belt. A six-and-three-quarter-length defeat to eventual Cambridgeshire winner Wissahickon at York in June doesn't look to be bad form, and he can score off a mark of 93. Greenside was far from disgraced on his return from a 341-day layoff at Newmarket last time, while Auxerre looks best of the Godolphin-owned pair.
