A usual host of Ballydoyle runners with fancy entries make up this strong-looking maiden, but other big-hitters such as Dermot Weld and John Oxx have won this race in recent years and bring some well-bred colts to the table. The former usually has his runner spot on for their debut, and NEOCLASSICAL is related to a host of quality horses, including Kingman and Remote. The son high-class American colt First Defence is expected to get the better of Derby 2017 entrant Sir Edwin Landseer, who is a beautifully-bred Galileo colt out of an Oaks trial winner. Pindaric represents last year's winning connections, and warrants a market check having cost his connections 140,000 pounds last August at the sales.

MIDNIGHT CROSSING has some impressive maiden form, with respectable defeats behind the likes of Turret Rocks and Shogun on her CV. She made a pleasing return to action at Dundalk in April behind potential group horse Long Island Sound, and with slight improvement expected, she can take this en route to better things for Eddie Lynam. Cockatoo Island should feel the benefits of a drop in trip after a couple of promising efforts, while improvement can be expected from Propriano, who didn't show too much on his debut but should have benefited from a winter in the care of Dermot Weld. Crafted Jewel shaped as though a mile would suit her well in three runs last season and is also worthy of consideration.

A fair-looking mark of 65 for VALENTANA could prove lenient and she receives a tentative vote in an open contest. Willie McCreery's four-year-old shaped well in a couple of Dundalk efforts last year, and it looked as though she would be well suited by handicaps. She may want further than this in time, but after a six-month break, the mile trip on offer should prove to be more than enough. War Room returned to form at Dundalk last time and looks well treated, but it is a concern that he is yet to record a win on turf. Locus Standi is a consistent type who is entitled to be there in the closing stages once again.

ORDER OF ST GEORGE will need to win this Listed contest with the minimum of fuss if he's to justify his position at the summit of the Ascot Gold Cup market. Representing last year's winning connections, courtesy of subsequent Gold Cup second Kingfisher, last season's impressive Irish St. Leger winner should take the world of beating on his return to action. Silwana is rated 21lb the selection's inferior yet heads the list of dangers from Mandatario.

BROKOPONDO won impressively over 1m4f at Dundalk last month and was last seen running creditably in defeat when the recipient of a bronze medal at Navan. Not disgraced that day, he is 8lb higher than when recording his second all-weather success two starts back but connections have found him another good opening and this sounder surface should play to his strengths. Hurricane Sky represents shrewd connections and joins Sharjah, a winner at Bath last time, on the shortlist.

Dundalk maiden winner SANTA MONICA sets the standard on her subsequent Group 3 second behind Beacon Rock at the Curragh. Charles O'Brien's filly was putting in her best work at the finish that day and could improve for this step up in distance. Zalfana steps up from 1m and has place claims along with Claudio Monteverdi, who failed to justify favouritism in the Derby Trial at Epsom last time but likely has better to offer given his breeding (brother to Lush Lashes).

SECRET SPLENDOUR shaped with plenty of promise on her seasonal debut at the Curragh, finishing a half-length second over this trip. The run is unlikely to be lost on her and she's entitled to go well now sent handicapping. Maronella kept on well in the closing stages when second over 1m at Gowran last time and has place possibilities now upped in distance. Mademoiselle Penny has been raised 4lb for scoring over this trip at Clonmel but merits shortlist inclusion, likewise recent Tipperary third Way To My Heart.
