Lion Beacon stepped up on his debut effort when third over this C&D and there could be more to come, but he was three lengths behind SPILLWAY over 1m at Kempton first time out and the latter can frank the form. Eve Johnson Houghton's charge was a real eye-catcher when third that day as he travelled nicely before struggling to get a clear run and the experience should have done him the world of good. Too Difficult only found one too good in the mud at Yarmouth first time out and is interesting now switched to the all-weather.

Sofi's Spirit scored in this grade over 7f at Wolverhampton last week but found little off the bridle and only just got home. She has obvious claims again but it may be worth chancing that all is well with LEXI THE PRINCESS following her break. After landing a 5f Redcar maiden, Jamie Osborne's charge was well backed for a 6f Southwell claimer in July but she went lame and was pulled up. She looks better than selling class and can prove it after being given plenty of time to recover. Divine Angel has proven capable at this level but his best form has come over 1m.

Billy Red continues to slide down the weights and could be ready to strike soon, with similar comments applicable to Fathom Five, while C&D winner Even Bolder must be considered back on the all-weather after narrowly failing at Bath when last seen in October. Slight preference, however, is for ATLANTIC BEACH, who is now back off his last winning mark and is expected to come on for his encouraging fourth (just ahead of the reopposing Desert Strike) on his first run since March a week ago.

A competitive claimer and the vote goes to LOCKANTANKS, who is the highest rated in the field and he was successful when last tried in this grade at Wolverhampton in October. Michael Appleby's gelding has performed well in better contests since and has bagged a good draw today, but so has Decent Fella, who is used to mixing in hot handicap company and rates a serious threat having scored on his sole Polytrack outing to date. Brocklebank, successful at this level over 1m here last month, has found some form again of late and is another for the shortlist.

Following his victory at Wolverhampton, ROBIN HOODS BAY was unlucky when going down by a neck in a hot C&D handicap last time out and although he is racing off a 2lb higher mark today, he can make the most of this drop in class. Hill Street quickened up nicely to land a 1m maiden here in good style when last seen in May and the lightly-raced John Gosden inmate looks the biggest threat on his handicap bow, ahead of Trois Vallees.

Aquilonius missed a good opportunity when held by the narrowest of margins at Wolverhampton and, down in trip slightly off a 2lb higher mark, Stuart Williams' charge looks worth taking on here, possibly with FABLED CITY. After getting off the mark at Epsom in September, he shaped as though further would suit when beaten by a length off this mark over 7f at Wolverhampton three weeks ago and the extra furlong can unlock the necessary improvement to land this heat. Patriotic wasn't beaten too far into fourth behind Robin Hoods Bay last month and a big run from that rival in the previous race today would enhance the claims of Chris Dwyer's four-year-old.

Despite going up another 2lb for his second win over 6f at Wolverhampton in 19 days recently, GUNG HO JACK is still 10lb lower than when successful at Goodwood last summer and a hat-trick could be on the cards, with his latest success boosted by the subsequent victories of the second and fourth. Well drawn today and coming back down the weights, Rambo Will should make his presence felt with the booking of Graham Lee another positive, while Shawkantango has solid place claims.

It may have been the drop in trip and rise in class that caught out Mother Jones last time, not the 6lb rise incurred for winning well over 6f at Wolverhampton previously. She is worth a second look today but the vote goes to DANCING WELCOME, who returned to form when third over C&D off this mark on Saturday. This is usually her time of year and she looks certain to play a leading role. Half A Crown completes the shortlist.
