Nicky Henderson and Nico de Boinville won both divisions of this contest 12 months ago and that pair look to have a cracking chance with HEROSS DU SEUIL this time around. Bought out of France after readily winning a Flat race at Moulins in August, he was an impressive scorer on his hurdling debut at Kempton last month (albeit he was narrowly behind when left clear at the last) and could take this en route to bigger and better things. Southwell winner Balleticon is a fair gelding, though, and should keep the selection honest at least, while Olympic Conqueror, Calico and Red Maple also have solid place credentials.

A chance is taken on hurdling debutant THEME TUNE, who has shaped encouragingly in a couple of bumper starts and is likely to improve for stretching out in distance. Roman Rock made a pleasing stable debut when third over 2m7f at Haydock last month and the fourth from that race has franked the form by winning since. Mountain Leopard is entitled to improve for his Plumpton second and warrants respect, while Barely Famous, Seven No Trumps, Maitree Express and Prime Pretender add further spice to the race.

ENZO D'AIRY has done little wrong since swapping hurdles for fences, winning twice over 2m1f, and the possible improvement brought about by stepping up in trip could help him defy a further 8lb hike in the ratings. Faustinovick went down by the narrowest of margins at Chepstow last time and, for all a 7lb rise looks harsh, he must enter calculations. It would come as no surprise to see Catamaran Du Seuil, who lines up off the same mark as when runner-up at Newcastle latest, involved at the finish either.

The return to handicap company and stepping back up in trip will suit ROBIN GOLD having been outclassed in Listed company at Sandown on her latest start. She gets on well with Bridget Andrews, with their success at Ascot in November showcasing that, and could have further progression to come. Sandymount Rose escapes a penalty for her victory in a 2m7f conditional jockeys' event at Exeter 11 days ago and looks set for a bold double bid, while Memphis Bell failed in her bid for a five-timer when pulled up at Chepstow yesterday but cannot be discounted.

TWOJAYSLAD landed a more competitive race than he encounters on this occasion at Doncaster last month having benefited from the application of a tongue-tie on his last couple of starts. The veteran performer is likely to continue his decent run of form and is capable of handling a 4lb rise from the handicapper. Lessankan is open to improvement following her second on chasing debut at Fakenham, while Fact Flow and Happy News appear best of the remainder.

Despite his advancing years, it's hard to see past HAZEL HILL here. The 13-year-old landed the Foxhunter at Cheltenham in 2019 and was only narrowly beaten by Minella Rocco in a hunter chase at Wetherby last year. Likely to come on for a recent spin between the flags, he can get the better of Reikers Island, who was a solid handicapper rated in the 130s last season. Ennistown is another who switches from handicaps to hunter chases and is of interest, while Magna Sam won this race by 49 lengths last year so is an obvious danger to all.

Midnight Centurion was completely unfancied on debut at Southwell last time but ran well for second so has to be considered more carefully here, while Extraordinary Man was a solid if unspectacular third over C&D on his first outing and will need to come on for that experience. KNICKERBOCKERGLORY was far too keen for his own good on debut over 2m here, but he still knuckled down well to take second and looks capable of bettering that effort if he settles. Nicky Henderson's Balco Coastal and the Henry Daly-trained Miltiades look the pick of the remainder.
