CALAFICIAL would almost certainly have scored here in April but for capsizing two out when seemingly travelling all over his rivals. He disappointed subsequently at Wincanton but has been given a good rest since and should gain a first hurdling success here. Vice Admiral has yet to prove as effective over timber as on that Flat where he scored four times but still looks the main threat, with Sands Of Barra and hurdling debutant and Irish import Sagarich also likely to be involved in the scrap for place money.

HEIR TO BE should prove a tough nut to crack as he seeks a fifth win in six outings. He found claiming company much to his liking last month when twice scoring with plenty in hand at Fontwell. Andy Haynes has his string in good heart at present and seems to have found another tempting opportunity for his reliable 10-y-o. The yard has also taken charge of Stumped who has some decent chase form for Henry Daly and the market should guide as to his chances. However, a larger threat is Stoop To Conquer, somewhat surprisingly dropped to claiming grade.

MYCENEAN PRINCE has shown enough in his last three runs, notably when inched out by Bundle Up at Huntingdon last month, to suggest he's capable of scoring here off a reasonable mark. However, he has yet to score in no less than 48 career outings under both codes and stakes should therefore be kept to a minimum. Ramvaswani has also failed to enter the winners' enclosure, in 41 outings, but he too is in decent heart and should give a good account here. Three Boars should be well suited to Keith Mercer's sympathetic style and has solid each-way claims.

This looks a competitive heat but as long as OVERSTRAND is none the worse for a hard race when beaten just half a length by Ship's Hill at Worcester six days ago, he should go well now he has recovered a decent level of form and is back down to a workable mark. His pilot's 5lb claim will certainly do no harm either. English City ran a strange race last time, outpaced before staying on late at Perth, but he does have plenty of ability and is a live threat here. Hippodrome and Mickmacmagoole look next best.

POKANOKET received a cool ride when scoring here last month and it comes as little surprise to see James Halliday retain the mount. The mare has a pleasingly progressive profile and can confirm form with Springfield Raki, albeit on worse terms. The latter remains the prime threat, however, especially as he enjoys it round here and this is very much a specialist track. Mr Robert, having his first run for Evan Williams, brings some decent Irish form to the table, although both his wins have come over fences so far. A market watch is advisable on the Dr Massini gelding.

Most of these are exposed sorts but SPECIAL BRANCH AMI is an obvious exception. The Galileo gelding showed some promise in two Flat outings and has displayed similar potential in two efforts over timber, notably when a decent third in a fair Newbury hurdle last November. It is a concern that he's not been seen since but hopefully the market will indicate a degree of confidence in his chance. Festive Chimes (due to run at Uttoxeter last night) was perhaps a little flat last time but her overall form profile, especially on sharp tracks, puts her right in the mix. Runaround Sue and Thehonourablelady are next best.

PAINT THE CLOUDS scored with a degree of authority on his bumper debut at Sedgefield 10 days ago and can supplement that success, despite being asked to give weight away to all rivals. He looked a little green that day so improvement can be expected and the fact that his yard is in excellent form at present adds to confidence. Manitoba looks an obvious danger after a pleasing introduction here last month when runner-up to the useful-looking Mac Aeda. I've Been Framed followed up his Irish pointing win with a solid bumper third at Stratford and should get involved again.
