MOUNTAINSIDE was best of these on the Flat and impressed when overturning short-priced favourite Dominada on his hurdling debut over this C&D. The latter franked that form when winning a Flat race at Catterick on Wednesday and, with the added support of first-time cheekpieces, John Ferguson's charge can complete the double. His main danger looks to be Retro Valley, who is a triple Flat winner including at Brighton last time. Penny Boo could prove next best in receipt of weight.

SEA LORD is 16lb superior to his nearest rival on official figures and his only previous visit to this track saw him land the Summer Hurdle in 2013. He looks a cut above and can bounce back from an unsuccessful first outing over fences. The improving Vivant Poeme is feared most after he landed a Fontwell novice event by nine lengths in June, and it will be interesting to see whether Alan Johns' 7lb claim can make a difference for Dubh Eile, who was denied a hat-trick at Worcester latest.

This could be all about BUCKWHEAT, who absolutely bolted up on his handicap debut at Aintree and represents the trainer who has won this for the past two years. The winner of a Listed Flat race at Chantilly in June 2013, the five-year-old created a deep impression when successful on his hurdling bow at Catterick before bumping into a smart horse of Nicky Henderson's at Doncaster and then readily exploiting 13lb lower at the Liverpool track. Stable companion Commissioned isn't without claims judged on his demolition job at Cartmel, while Hammersly Lake is noted along with Hurricane Hollow.

Last year's winner It's A Gimme arrives fresh from an encouraging effort at Stratford and deserves the utmost respect. He is 11lb higher this time, though, and a chance is taken on his stablemate LOST LEGEND, who conceded 2lb to the winner when runner-up in this contest 12 months ago. A failure to complete the bet365 Gold Cup course can be forgiven and he travelled well for a long way at the Cheltenham Festival prior to that. The progressive Pumped Up Kicks is respected, and Valco De Touzaine doesn't know how to run a bad race.

High-class Flat performer MINER'S LAMP made a big impression when readily seeing off his Stratford rivals first time over hurdles and, open to any amount of improvement, he is fancied to complete the double. Dire Straits posted his best effort yet when chasing home the now 128-rated Nabucco here and he might find a John Ferguson inmate too good once more. Tiger Twenty Two has a length and a quarter to find with Dire Straits on latest form and looks next best.

A number of these look to have chances so MONT ROYALE receives what can only be a tentative vote. Win and placed efforts over timber last month show that he is arriving at the top of his game and the impression is that he will improve again for this switch to fences. Another trying the bigger obstacles for the first time is Jayo Time, who will arrive full of confidence following selling hurdle victories at Uttoxeter and Worcester. Noble Friend, Lord Grantham and Double Handful add further spice to the race.

It's worth giving KAYFTON PETE one more chance, as he appeared to be feeling the effects of a previous fall when below par last time. He could take plenty of stopping if rediscovering his peak form. Formal Bid took a step back in the right direction when third over hurdles at Perth on his most recent outing, while Town Mouse would be in with a shout if putting a poor run behind him. Capisci is also noted with Sam Twiston-Davies in the plate.
