An uninspiring affair to kick off proceedings but there has to be a winner and the one most likely to prevail is YOUNG TOT. Staying on when beaten 10 lengths on his last outing, he was staying on at the finish and looks capable of winning this. Simon's Seat looks best of the rest along with Little Tobias and Reedsman.

Tony McCoy's followers are sure to get a run for their money with Rifleman but there are stronger looking alternatives in Weston Rock and ROMANY PRINCE. The former was a wide margin winner at Uttoxeter last time but preference is for Steve Gollings' charge. A winner on his last run in this grade earlier in the month, his latest second in a stronger race at Stratford is the best form on offer and he is clearly the one to beat here.

PILLAR OF FIRE has made the frame in stronger company on his last six outings but struggles to win at that level but should be able to score in this lesser event. Johnny Grand looks ready for a try at this longer trip and heads the dangers while Raise A McGregor can fill the other place.

BE THE TOPS finished last season in good heart and made a promising start to the new campaign when finishing second on his reappearance earlier this month. Enough can be taken from that to suggest he is ready to score, possibly at the main expense of Croc An Oir. Graham Lee's mount relishes the fast gound summer brings but the recent rain dampens his chance and although he acts with cut in the ground the balance tips in favour of Jonjo O'Neill's gelding.

Herne Bay bids for a hat-trick but this is a slight rise in class and the handicapper's latest efforts to peg him back may well be enough to prevent another success here. ROOM TO ROOM GOLD won going away last time and looks capable of following up that win in a similar contest. Beaugency has begun a winning run in his last two starts but may have to settle for a minor role today. Friedhelmo and Alpine Hideaway could also be capable of making the frame.

Malcolm Jefferson's DEWASENTAH seems to thrive at the summer jumping game and has been in top form recently, winning twice and been placed on her last three outings. This doesn't look the most difficult of assignments and she should be able to continue the winning streak under Graham Lee. Nifty Roy won on his penultimate start before disappointing at Stratford but could get involved here. The Needler, on his first run for a new yard, could also be a danger if the selection is to disappoint.

It is hard to get away from TOM BELL in what seems to be a poor race. Champion Jockey Tony McCoy takes the ride on the gelding who won easily on his penultimate start and was running a fair race when falling last time out. An easy opportunity appears to have been found in order for him to add to his winning tally for the season. Maria Bonita, a winner on the Flat, could go well on this hurdles debut. Durba may be good enough for a place.
