The London Gang broke his duck in style over this trip earlier month before finding 7f too far last time out, he should have his say from the pick of the draw today. However, CURTAIL has raised his game in recent months to go close in a higher grade and could be the one to beat with a favourable draw. After landing a maiden in good style at York latest, The History Man is one to consider but a high berth tempers enthusiasm.
Market support for any of the newcomers should be noted, especially Kevin Ryan's well drawn 25,000 gns purchase Mistatake, but it's hard to oppose BROKEN SPUR. Barry Hills' charge was just touched off in a similar event at Lingfield when stepped up to 7f latest. He has improved with each outing so far and wouldn't have to find much to land this one with a good draw.
DABBERS RIDGE has improved with each outing this term and went very close to scoring in this grade here latest, despite a poor draw. He breaks from a better position today and a 3lb rise may not be enough to halt the progressive colt. Acomb landed an impressive hat-trick, he has the early pace to get away across to the rail early here and could be the biggest threat.
Thorny Mandate relished a switch to the sand when breaking through in style over 1m2f at Lingfield last week. However, he has something to prove on turf and a 6lb rise means it could be worth taking a chance on GALLEGO. Richard Price's colt has been banging on the door in recent months over 1m and a step up in trip could be the answer.
Eisteddfod is the form horse on the back of a double in good handicap company but a poor draw makes his hat-trick task tougher today. Fayr Jag is used to mixing in better company and has obvious claims but he won't like the rain-softened ground, something that PRINCE CHARMING will appreciate. John Gosden's colt scored twice on soft ground during a very encouraging juvenile campaign and could be worth taking a chance on as he returns.
Sharpcut was proving a very useful three-year-old before his lengthy lay-off and can't be ruled out on his reappearance, but it could be safer to side with INCURSION. Eddie Ahern's mount returned to form to make the frame over an unsuitable 2m at Goodwood last time out and he likes to get his toe in. Loves Travelling is another that appears to be coming good again and can't be ruled out.
