DESERT ACE arrives here off the same mark as when second at Beverley at the weekend and is 4lb lower than when winning over course and distance earlier in the season, so he gets the nod here. Stablemate Gamesome strengthens Paul Midgley's hand in this and has already scored twice this term, while track-and-trip winner Super Julius was only beaten a neck on heavy ground at Ayr last month and returns off just a 1lb higher rating.

KAIZER was a winner over hurdles in July and made the podium over this track and trip when switching to the level shortly after. Alistair Whillans' four-year-old has the chance to build on that first effort over 1m6f off a mark just 3lb higher and appears the most likely winner. Course-and-distance scorer Tor might enjoy going back up in trip and is respected, while Corton Lad was a winner here just two starts ago and wasn't far away from back-to-back victories off this rating at Hamilton last time.

YOSHIMI has rattled the crossbar on both outings so far and Richard Fahey's Dream Ahead colt is given one more chance to make his mark over seven furlongs, with the form of his recent Beverley second looking useful. Mark Johnston won this last season and is represented by Um Elnadim this time around, while Handlebars was third over course and distance on debut and could have lots more to come here.

SIX STRINGS made a winning return from an eight-month absence at Catterick last week and Mick Appleby's five-year-old won with enough in hand to suggest he can thrive again under a 5lb penalty. Track-and-trip winner Donnelly's Rainbow thrives here and could leave his latest disappointment in the past, while How Bizarre is another who goes well at this venue and could be suited by a return to seven furlongs this time.

NORTHERN SOCIETY used his track experience to his advantage when a course-and-distance winner last week and could thrive once again under a 6lb penalty. Amazing Alba was second in that contest and has to be respected off a 1lb lower mark, while Archimedes is another who competes under a penalty and lost little in defeat in a competitive Beverley contest at the weekend. Thornaby Princess got the better of Corton Lass when springing a track-and-trip surprise last time and both warrant a place on the shortlist on this quick reappearance.

ECHO OF LIGHTNING notched a third course victory when readily making all over 7f here last time and a 4lb penalty might not be enough to anchor him if arriving in the same mood. Muatadel only found the in-form Betty Grable too good at Carlisle and a repeat performance should put him in the shake-up again, while Geography Teacher, Retirement Beckons and The Big House are other in-form players to watch out for.

CUBA RUBA justified strong market support when scoring gamely over C&D last time and although a 6lb penalty will obviously make life tougher, the relatively unexposed gelding might be able to find enough improvement to follow up. Fantastic Ms Fox has been knocking on the door at a higher level and can figure prominently again, while Three Castles and Lizzie Loch add further spice to the race.
